The original Jonas Brothers have a new CD coming out!
Yes the original Jonas Brothers aka the Hansons have a new CD coming out!
Remember the ‘97 single “MMMBop.”? (the song is stuck in our heads once again. Nooo!) Well, Isaac, 29, Taylor, 27, and Zac Hanson, 24, went on the TODAY show to talk about marriage, being dad’s, growing up in the spotlight, and talk about music.
Hanson’s debut single, “Thinking ‘Bout Somethin,” was released to digital outlets on Friday and the band starts its “Shout it Out” Summer in Burbank on July 21.
Hanson out performs all others
I have been having an insatiable love affair with three brothers for the past 13 years.
In April 1997, three native sons of Tulsa, Oklahoma named Zac, Taylor and Isaac Hanson instantly captivated my ears and quickly settled into a permanent residence within my soul.
Before you cringe at the thought of their first single, “MMMbop,” let it be known that the infectious ditty was ranked No. 1 in 27 countries, was voted best single of the year by the prestigious New York critics of “The Village Voice,” was given high praise by both “Rolling Stone” and “Spin” music magazines and Zac was recognized as the youngest Grammy-nominated songwriter in history.
Blessed with organic talent, the flaxen-haired trio came a long way from its start in 1990, peddling perfect harmonies a cappella at local fairs and carnivals.
During the height of their initial success from 1997 to 2000, the Hanson brothers put out an impressive amount of work – two documentary films, a Christmas album, a 12-issue fan club magazine series, a live concert album, a throwback album of songs recorded before they were signed to a record label and a sixth studio album titled “This Time Around.”
In the summer of 2000, at the ripe old age of 15, I begged my mom to drive two hours from Saucier, Mississippi, to a mall in New Orleans for a “Meet and Greet” with Hanson.
My mom’s car was without air conditioning and the summer southern air was hot, humid and infested with lovebugs.
The only source of music (Hanson, of course) was from a boombox I had running on nine D-cell batteries.
We waited in line for four hours before I even got a glimpse of my beloved Hanson brothers.
And then, I met them.
Yes, I met Hanson.
Taylor was as genuine, gracious and outspoken as I had imagined and I was more than grateful to snag a quick hug before security moved me along.
Finally face-to-face with Zac, I could barely breathe or speak and sheepishly pushed my poster forward for his signature as my mom babbled on about how he was my favorite and how it was my biggest dream to marry him – thanks, Mom.
Isaac was uncouth and didn’t care to look up at me once. Instead, he simply snatched my poster from Zac, scrawled his signature across it and passed it back to me in a cold, robotic manner.
This just emphasized the fact that Isaac was and would always be the oldest, ugliest and my least favorite of the bunch.
The best day of my life soon became the best night of my life when my mom snuck into my first Hanson concert.
Hanson to make Aug. 16 tour stop at Grand Rapids' Intersection
With a fifth studio album by the pop-rock trio of brothers set for release in June, Hanson plans to hit the concert trail this summer with an Aug. 16 tour stop at The Intersection in Grand Rapids.
The Oklahoma brothers Isaac, Taylor and Zac Hanson, who first scored it big with the 1997 single, “MMMBop,” plan to release their new album, “Shout It Out,” on June 8, then kick off their North American tour of theaters and nightclubs on July 21 in New York.
Tickets, $25, for the Grand Rapids show go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. Friday at Ticketmaster outlets, 800-745-3000 and ticketmaster.com. A pre-sale will begin Tuesday, but details were still being worked out. Check online at sectionlive.com for updates.
“Thinking ‘Bout Somethin’,” the first single from the new album was released to digital outlets Friday (in conjunction with the network premiere performance of the song on the “Late Show With David Letterman”) and the video for the soulful pop-rock tune had already been viewed nearly 1.2 million times by early Monday evening.
New Melody Tent show will please Siobhan

Hanson, the three-brother boy band of “MMMBop” fame, was just added to the 2010 line-up for the Cape Cod Melody Tent. That’s likely music to American Idol contestant and Marstons Mills resident Siobhan Magnus’s ears, as she counts the band among her favorites. In March, she received an encouraging personal message from Taylor Hanson. According to mtv.com, she wrote on her official Idol Twitter account, “Taylor Hanson: thank u so much for the message u have no idea what it means to me!”
Hanson’s fifth studio album, Shout It Out, written and produced by the band, is set to be released June 8 on their label 3CG Records.
Magnus, a 2008 Barnstable High School graduate, will likely miss the Hansons on her home turf, as she’ll be on tour this summer as part of the American Idols Live tour, for which dates have yet to be announced.
She’ll be back on stage at Barnstable High School tomorrow night for a viewing party of American Idol on the big screen in the performing arts center.
Hanson performs at the Melody Tent on Friday, July 23, at 8 pm. Tickets: $50.75 & $33.75.
Tickets for this performance will be available for sale to the general public on Friday, April 30. Hanson tickets can be purchased online at www.melodytent.org; by phone through Ticketmaster at 1-800-745-3000; or in person at the South Shore Music Circus box office in Cohasset.
The Melody Tent box office opens for the season on Sunday, May 30, at noon for in-person sales.

Hanson announces Shout It Out Tour
The boy band Hanson (remember them, the trio of brothers before the Jonas Brothers) announced the first two legs of their North American tour today in a press release. Isaac, Taylor and Zac Hanson are kicking-off their big tour in support of their highly anticipated fifth record, Shout It Out.
The band’s debut single, “Thinking ‘Bout Somethin,” which was released to digital outlets on Friday coinciding with the premiere network television performance of the song on the Late Show with David Letterman and the music video, have been garnering praise from numerous media outlets.
The video features “Weird” Al Yankovic and has been viewed over a million times in the first few days of release, and is still rising.
The four minute long music video honors the classic film The Blues Brothers, recreating an iconic scene where the band’s soulful music rallies over 300 people to dance in the street.
The first leg of the Shout It Out Tour begins July 21 with support from Rooney, and covers the east coast, south and midwest. The second leg, featuring A Rocket To The Moon, covers the southwest and west coast and begins September 14.
The Shout It Out tour also provides a platform for Hanson to continue their passion and support for independent music by partnering with OurStage to host an opening band contest in each market, where local indie artists can compete for the chance to share the stage with the band.
“We are honored that Hanson approached OurStage to find emerging artists to perform as opening acts at local stops of their tour,” Ben Campbell, CEO of OurStage, stated in a press release. “Hanson has been a leader in the music industry for a long time as musicians and by running their own label, paving the way for other emerging artists seeking to make a name for themselves.”
“Our band has always been fueled by a dynamic relationship with our fans, and the launch of live content with Livestream is going to open a new door for us to engage music fans wherever they are in real time through Livestream’s player which can be embedded anywhere from Facebook to Twitter and turn a broadcast into an online conversation,” Taylor Hanson said.
Isaac added, “The live platform is where we think the future is for artists who want to really engage their fans.”

Hanson goes five for five

Success can always come back to bite you in the butt. Even though Robert Plant can’t stand it anymore, “Stairway to Heaven” will always be Led Zeppelin’s biggest song.
With Hanson, the single “MMMBop” and the album “Middle of Nowhere” made them an instant international success. But its poppy tilt, combined with the Hanson brothers’ youth (and the fact that they’re three brothers in a band) had many people writing them off as a one-hit gimmick.
The brothers learned to deal with it years ago.
“Success is a double-edged sword,” Zac Hanson said. “You get in the position where people go ‘This is what they are.’ … having that record be successful gave us the ability to put out the records we’re putting out now.”
In the meantime, Isaac, Taylor and Zac have gone on to make a string of studio albums (including the upcoming “Shout It Out,”) have done charitable work fighting AIDS and HIV in Africa, and they’ve got a new single, “Thinking ‘bout Something” with a new video that goofs on their own image and that of other musicians.
Starting tonight, Hanson’s doing five sold-out shows in a row at the Gramercy Theater in New York City, doing five of their albums in their entirety. Tonight is “Middle of Nowhere.” Tuesday is “This Time Around,” followed by “Underneath,” “The Walk” and the premiere of the new album, “Shout It Out,” on Friday night.
Why do you care? Because they’re streaming these shows live as they’re being performed. The video below will take you to all the shows.
Whether it’s your taste or not, you’ve got to give them points for confidence and giving the fans what they want. And if you tune in you just might be surprised about those preconceptions of yours.
