HANSON ADDS MONTERREY MEXICO DATE TO LATIN AMERICA LEG OF THEIR MIDDLE OF EVERYWHERE 25th ANNIVERSARY WORLD TOUR

By | June 12, 2017
In celebration of the band’s 25th Anniversary, multi-Grammy nominated pop-rock trio HANSON have launched a comprehensive tour taking them around the world, with concerts quickly selling out in Europe, North America and Australia. Following overwhelming response to last week’s on-sale of the upcoming Latin American leg of the tour, the band is adding an additional concert in Monterrey, Mexico to the tour. The additional concert in Monterrey set for August 13th at Rio 70 will go on sale to the public on Fri 16th June, following special fan club pre-sales this week.

“The Middle Of Everywhere Tour has already been a great success since our kick off last week in Europe and the great response to the Latin American onsale. We’re excited that the new show in Monterrey will bring the tour to even more fans as a part of this year’s anniversary celebration”, said keyboardist and singer Taylor Hanson.

The world tour, which began at the band’s rapidly growing festival The Hop Jam Beer and Music Festival on May 21st in Tulsa, OK, just wrapped up the first leg with 2 nights in London, following many sold out shows across Europe.

Coinciding with their benchmark 25th year together, over which the group has released six studio albums and sold over 16 million albums, later this year HANSON will also be releasing Middle Of Everywhere – The Greatest Hits, a comprehensive collection which includes hit singles “Mmmbop”, “Where’s The Love”, “Weird ”, “This Time Around”, “If Only”, “Save Me” “Penny And Me”, “Thinking ‘Bout Somethin’”, “Get The Girl Back”, plus their brand new single “I Was Born”.

Besides HANSON’s 25th anniversary, 2017 is also the 20th anniversary of their debut release Middle Of Nowhere, lead by the iconic single “Mmmbop”, which introduced the group to the world. The tour will feature performances of the group’s most widely known material alongside fan favorites encompassing their extensive catalog since their iconic debut.

Founded in 1992, the trio of brothers began performing classic rock ‘n roll and soul music, and writing original material, crafting a unique blend of harmonies and organic soulful pop-rock. The group took the world by storm with their debut major release in 1997, ushering in a string of top 40 singles and establishing them as one of the world’s leading artists

In 2003, the group founded their own independent 3CG Records, starting a new era for the band with their #1 independent album Underneath, featuring hit single “Penny And Me”, positioning them among the most successful independent bands to date. Since then, HANSON has released 3 studio albums under their label, toured the world cultivating a vibrant global fan base engaged by their dynamic live performances, and released an ongoing stream of special products direct to their devout fan community.

In 2013, the group diversified its brand with the founding of their Hanson Brothers Beer Company, and in 2014 added The Hop Jam Beer and Music Festival based in their hometown of Tulsa, OK, which brings together artists and brewers from all over the world, culminating in one of the country’s leading Craft Beer and Music Festivals with 40,000 in attendance, occurring this year on May 21st in Tulsa. The Middle Of Everywhere Tour showcases more than two decades of music in a celebratory world tour, alongside new music that will be followed by a further release in 2018.

Hanson bring 25th anniversary tour to NZ: ‘You’ve got to bake a cake and put some candles in it’

By | June 10, 2017

Taylor, left, Zac, and Isaac Hanson will play the Auckland Town Hall on June 27.

Taylor, left, Zac, and Isaac Hanson will play the Auckland Town Hall on June 27.

The year was 1997. The song: MmmBop. If you had ears at the time, you’ll remember the chorus: that string of what seemed like nonsense words, that jaunty syncopation.

It hit number one in 27 countries. In New Zealand, it spent two weeks at the top of the charts. Depending on your age, you might have stayed up past your bedtime, like me, to record it onto cassette tape off the Top Nine at Nine.

Hanson – those three blonde brothers from Tulsa, Oklahoma – were marketed straight into the hands, and hearts, of teen and pre-teen girls. And by God, it worked.

In the rural Manawatu, we cut posters of the trio out of TV Hits magazine. We wrote their names, and ours, into our exercise books, then counted up the shared Ls and Os to determine the likelihood of us falling in love.

Online, you can still find cached copies of Hanson fan sites listing each brother’s favourite colour and ice cream flavour. One tells me that Taylor, the middle child, has a scar on his head from running into a glass door as a kid. On another, I learn that Zac, the youngest, “carries a pack of gum EVERYWHERE he goes”.

It’s been two decades since the single, and its accompanying album, Middle of Nowhere, was released. The brothers are all grown up, now. They have wives and kids, their own brew (Mmmhops, a smooth-bodied pale ale), their own craft beer and music festival (Hop Jam, held annually in downtown Tulsa). They’ve released five studio albums since their 1997 debut.

In the past, they’ve shied away from talking about their pop past, those bucket hats and baby teeth, in favour of pushing their more aggressive, guitar-based new releases. This time around, they’ve built a world tour on the back of that nostalgia.

The brothers will play Auckland on June 27, one of the first stops in a journey celebrating 20 years since Middle of Nowhere, and 25 years of Hanson as a band.

“When you hit a landmark like that,” Isaac, the oldest brother, says down the phone from their home town, “it kind of makes sense to make sure to properly celebrate it. You’ve got to bake a cake and put some candles in it, and sing a few songs and tell a few stories.”

The show, Isaac says, will see their debut album “fully represented”, but “we’ll also be making sure to hit high points of all the records over the past 20 years”.

It will be loud, he promises. It will be raucous. Those who have never seen Hanson play before will feel “very comfortable with music that you recognise and know”. In addition to that, “we also want to introduce you to stuff that a lot of other fans know and that we’re really, really proud of”.

Isaac, for those who are wondering, exudes the exact level of middle-American openness that you’d expect from a home schooled kid, raised by evangelical Christians, and none of the Bieber-esque qualities you’d anticipate from a man who hit the big time at the age of 16.

Much ink has been spilled on the Hanson brothers’ youth, but it bears repeating: they were just six, nine and 11 when they formed the band, in 1992. Zac holds the record for the youngest Grammy-nominated songwriter (for MmmBop, natch), of all time.

They started off singing a cappella on street corners, doing covers of 1950s bangers like Splish Splash and Rockin’ Robin. The next thing you know, they’re being signed at SXSW, recording a Christmas album (Snowed In), and fending off marriage proposals.

It would be enough to send any child star into a spiral à la Macauley Culkin. Isaac shrugs off any suggestion of being ‘balanced’, but credits his and his brothers’ level-headedness to their upbringing.

“Our parents were really, really grounded people, but also really ambitious people, meaning they saw our ambition and were willing to help us chase it,” he says.

“They weren’t pushing anything on us but they were more than willing to facilitate it, especially my mom. The truth is, she is probably the primary reason why we started doing things so young, because when we told her a crazy idea, she didn’t think it was crazy.

“My parents were never condescending to us. They treated us like adults from a very young age.”

It’s stood them in good stead – through their three-year struggle for creative freedom from their former label, Island Def Jam, the subsequent formation of their own independent label, 3CG, and a six-month band breakup in 2012.

The latter came, Isaac says, while writing their latest studio album, Anthem. He describes it as a “really big speed bump”. The brothers split in February of that year, and didn’t start writing together again until September.

This is Hanson we’re talking about, so if you’re looking for guile and gossip, a Noel and Liam Gallagher-style he-said she-said, you’re not going to get it. Instead, Isaac says, diplomatically, that “anything worth doing is going to be hard”.

“That is true of a relationship with your brothers, it is true of being in a band for 25 years, it’s true of marriage, it’s true of being a parent to kids. It takes a lot of work.

“For lack of a better way to say it, sometimes you just need a little bit of extra air to realise what you’ve got. I think we’ve learned to appreciate each other a little bit more and I think we’ve also learned to apologise better for some of the tomfoolery.”

The Middle of Everywhere tour runs until October. A second Christmas album is in the works, and a greatest hits compilation is also due out by the end of the year. The brothers might be a quarter-century older, but they’re not slowing down.

And the fans? It turns out they’re not all ’90s tragics, like me, who got hooked on MmmBop and never went away. Hanson shows are always, to be fair, packed with women in their 20s and 30s, but there’s a “fair smattering” of younger ones, too.

“I am continually pleasantly surprised by how many people are showing up at shows and are younger than our first record,” Isaac says.

“It’s a new phenomenon for me, and it’s a fun one.”

Hanson play the Auckland Town Hall on June 27. Tickets from Ticketmaster.

My First Hanson Day: Annie

By | June 10, 2017

Annie headed to her first Hanson day from Minnesota, solo.  She rediscovered her love of Hanson after seeing them on ABC’s Greatest Hits and decided to go to t see what Hanson Day was like.  Before attending, she was hoping to meet some fellow fans as she feels like she’s missed out on the last 20 years of camaraderie between fans.

Before arriving in Tulsa, Annie was most looking forward to the lectures since it would be an acoustic show and she was curious to hear the guys talk about the origins of the music and she of course is looking forward to the members only concert.

After arriving back from the events, Annie said that she had read a lot about Hanson Day prior to going so there wasn’t anything new from an events standpoint.  While most people dread the idea of lines at Hanson Day, Annie said she enjoyed waiting in the lines more than she thought she would, mainly because it gave her the chance to meet new people. She really appreciated how everyone was so willing to hold people’s spots in lines so they could do something other than stand in line all day.  She did think there would be more time for sight seeing and going to the arts fest.  She was disappointed that the weather didn’t cooperate and noted that as her least favorite thing of the weekend.  Her favorite things about the weekend was meeting new people and the acoustic show!

WEEKLY PIC

The Middle Of Everywhere Tour across Europe has been amazing so far with incredible shows and even a bit of seeing the sights along the way. Here’s a snap from a quick venture into the Amsterdam just a few days ago. See you on the road!

MESSAGE FROM THE BAND

The Middle Of Everywhere world tour has been amazing so far.  More than a week in with six shows under our belt and we are starting to hit our stride.  It has been a few years since the last time we toured in Europe, coming back to places like Paris and last night in Milan, has been nothing less than inspiring, and tomorrow we will play our first official show in Belgium … so cool to be going to new places even after this many years together. Twenty five years in we have done so many things and met so many amazing people, but playing concerts is still at the top of the list of our favorite things to do. We have been having an amazing time in Europe that it is hard to believe we will be in Australia in less than a week.  Big shout out to all the Hanson.net members we have been seeing at the shows. We hope the members only line for the concerts has been making your show even better.  Don’t forget to check-in at the shows to add to your Pin collection.  Huge thank you to all the fans who have been coming out to the shows and to the ones who have been traveling to multiple shows.  We would not get to do this without all of your support year in and year out.  We are enjoying a much needed day off today in France before we get back to the grind and finish off the last of the European shows on the Middle Of Everywhere world tour.

Isaac, Taylor and Zac

My First Hanson Day: Marilyn

By | June 9, 2017

Recently we reached out to try and find some first time Hanson Day attendees to find out what they were expecting and how the experience matched up after the fact.  Our first fan is Marilyn!

Marilyn had been previously trying to attend Hanson Day in Tulsa for years – she first started planning to go in 2011 or 2012.  This year it finally happened for her and she made the trek from Kentucky with her husband and parents. Her husband purchased a membership to attend the members only events with her as well.

“This year just seemed like the right time to go thanks to much convincing from myself and having my family agree to come with me is the icing on the cake. I’ve always wanted to come to Tulsa to just explore the city. It’s even better that Hanson has came up with all these events that fans can attend to interact with others all around the world and have that bond.”

Before heading to Tulsa, Marilyn was most looking forward to the lectures and hop jam.

Afterwards, we asked what was different than she expected – although she had been warned about long lines, he didn’t imagine how excessive they would be. Her husband didn’t like waiting either. Due to waiting in lines, she ended up missing the gallery, photos with the band and the State of the Band.  She mentioned that she also wanted to spend time with her husband and family and take the time to explore Tulsa so she had no regrets missing out on some of the events since she had fun doing everything else with her family.

The event she was most looking forward to, the lectures, ended up being the event that she enjoyed the most. She loved that it was an acoustic storytellers event.  She mentioned that she had missed out on the Underneath Acoustic tour in 2003, so the lectures show being acoustic was the icing on the cake for her.

“It was incredible to say the least hearing Yearbook live for the first time and seeing Taylor dominate the piano is something I’ll never forget!

The vibe of the fans interacting together and meeting up with one of my friends who’s also a fan was hard to describe. It was like magic. It’s strange how our bond keeps us together but it’s incredible. “I Don’t Want To Go Home” from the In Color EP perfectly describes our friendship with other fans and how much this weekly event makes it even better!”

Her least favorite part of the weekend was the lines and their lack of organization. As well as there not being enough time in the day to do all the Hanson events as well as explore Tulsa. She liked that it has become something bigger than a show and a meet & greet but was disappointed that so many events that required tickets sold out so quickly.

Marilyn also mentioned that she loved Ida Red! She thought the associates there were all very friendly and there were good vibes all around. Their merchandise is so cute and eclectic. She was able to enjoy an Ale8 float, which was like she had a piece of home with her there in Tulsa.

Here are some photos that Marilyn took during her weekend!

Hanson est de retour ! Voici 5 de leurs tubes

Hanson is back! Here are 5 of their tubes

This Friday, June 9 is a date like no other … An exceptional day itself. Not because it marks the beginning of the post-Mayor era in the capital, nor because the Red Devils will beat it with Estonia in the evening, but because it will see the unlikely coming to Belgium of the Hanson.

Isaac (the great), Taylor (the middle) and Zac (the little one) – who have never hung up the microphone and released albums at regular intervals over the years – are celebrating their quarter-century career this year. And, at the same time, the twenty years of their mythical album “Middle of Nowhere”, barded of the first and last tube of the siblings, saw “MMMBop”. A double-anniversary which will be the subject of a world tour, passing by the Trix Antwerp this Friday night.

On this occasion, we found five unavoidable tracks of the discography of the brothers. Enjoy …

1) “MMMBop”

2) “MMMBop”

3) “MMMBop”

4) “MMMBop”

5) “MMMBop”

For the pleasure of the groupies of Hanson who have become thirty, a small photo of the three bellâtres (today aged respectively 36, 34 and 31 years) in 2017.
