A fan has decided to try and raise $14,000 for Hope from the Heartland by Hanson Day 2011 – check out the details and donate if you can:
The Project:
Hanson have been involved in charity work to benefit the lives of people suffering from poverty and AIDS in South Africa for years. Through their music, their website TakeTheWalk.net, and one mile barefoot walks hosted by the band and their fans the world over, they have raised money to build schools, drill water wells, provide shoes, and help pregnant women with HIV prevent the disease from being passed on to their unborn children.
May 6th, 2011 is the 14th annual “Hanson Day”. What better way to celebrate the positive influence that Isaac, Taylor, and Zac Hanson have had on our lives for 14 years than to improve the lives of others in their name?
All money raised from this campaign will go to Hope From The Heartland, which is a non-profit based in Tulsa, OK that is associated with TakeTheWalk.net. You can donate anything from $10 up, so please give whatever you can. If you can’t afford to donate now, please keep this site in mind for when you can afford to. I personally plan to ask people to donate money instead of buying me birthday gifts this year (my birthday is May 5th haha).
If/when you make a donation, you can check a box to add a dedication. Even if you decide to donate anonymously, you can use the dedication to leave a message for Hanson, or a message about what this cause means to you personally. I’m considering (at the end of this fundraiser), printing up the entire list of donations and dedications and sending it to them so that they can see how much you guys raised and the messages of thanks and support you wanted to share with them.
Even if you can’t donate, you can help by spreading the word to those that can! If you want to tweet a link to this site or post it on Facebook or MySpace or Tumblr or anywhere else, you can use: http://tinyurl.com/hansonday2011
Thanks guys!
A Personal Message:
Hanson Day 2011 is a particularly special Hanson Day for me, because I was 14 when MMMBop and Middle of Nowhere came out, which means that this year Hanson will officially have been part of my life for half of my life! I’m sure I’m not the only fan celebrating that fact this year.
I was trying to think of something to do to show Hanson how grateful we are for all of the music, memories, friends, and inspiration that they have brought into our lives over the past 14 years, and I decided to set up this fundraiser in hopes of raising $14,000 to donate to Hope From The Heartland (the non-profit associated with TakeTheWalk.net) in their honor.
When you think about it, $14 isn’t even the price of a CD or a concert ticket, it’s barely the price of a few cups of coffee! I figure that if 1,000 Hanson fans could donate just $14 each between now and May 6th, we could easily make that goal!
