It’s bright and airy, infinitely poppy and powerful. Hanson’s newest studio release, “Shout It Out,” is crisp and lyric-driven — and quite possibly the best album from this Tulsa trio, ever.

“Shout It Out” is a proclamation of maturity, love, depth, substance and vitality. Sunny horns herald bluesy keyboard riffs and a cowbell in “Thinkin’ Bout Something,” the first single from the album. The brothers’ harmonies evoke classic Motown and gospel standards, from Michael Jackson to Stevie Wonder.

“Carry You There,” the quintessential pop ballad, is classic Hanson: Taylor’s boyish, soaring voice and buoyant keyboard work; Isaac’s punchy and luminous hooks; and Zac’s faultless drumming. Even down to the “false start” count-in on “Give a Little,” this album is an aural all-American love story — happy and hopeful and timeless.

The 12 tracks were recorded in El Paso, Tulsa and Hollywood with musical guests, including influential Michael Jackson horn and pop music arranger Jerry Hey and Motown funk bassist Bob Babbitt.

The three-time Grammy-nominated trio of brothers formed Hanson, a garage band, as pre-teens in Tulsa in
the mid-1990s. Millions of albums later, they literally own their own record company and work with who they choose, when they choose.

There are a hundred ways to say this album is a great spin. All of them apply.

Hanson’s “Shout It Out” tour rolls through town Aug. 25 at the Cain’s Ballroom. Visit tulsaworld.com/cains for ticket information.
