Hanson Goes to London! Part III

Bikes, ducks, smart cars, scones, and oh yeah some pictures of people, too. There’s quite a few selections that are truly for the wanderer in this last installment of images from our June London trip. One of my favorite pastimes during our trip was to wander through Hyde Park at odd hours (only partly due to the jet lag). During these trips I crossed paths with a wild fox strolling through the park pathway — no picture to prove that, but a couple times I caught a shadowy figure feeding the ducks during the twilight hours (like something straight out of Mary Poppins), and did have the camera ready. (And, no, I was not drunk or otherwise).
Another one of my favorite subjects is good food, so you’ll catch a few pics of quintessential British foods like scones and clotted cream and finger sandwiches … oh so good. Looking back at this set of pics feels like a nice send off and I look forward to the next London visit, which will come fairly soon. We’ll be back to the island in August for the famed V festival, which is sure to produce some great pics.
Thinking about festivals is also a great cue for me to stop the chatter and let you grab a look at my 10th PAPERMAG blog, and also a nice segue to by next blog, which you should look out for in the coming days. It’s all about our day in Holland at the PinkPop festival back in June.
Hope you enjoy

Pop stars Hanson are giving fans the chance to choose the setlist for their upcoming U.S. tour.

The singing siblings are hitting the road later this year (11) for their Musical Ride Tour and at each concert they will perform one of their studio albums in its entirety.

The MmmBop hitmakers will allow the audience to vote for the record they want to hear at each gig before they take to the stage.

Zac Hanson tells Mtv News, “This tour is a unique way of saying thank you to the many fans that have followed the band for years, who will, for the first time, get a chance to help shape the show they see each night.”

The other Hanson Bros.

It has been 14 years since “MMMBop.” You can admit you loved that prime piece of pop perfection and the boys who sang it. It’s high time for a revisionist look at Hanson, no? They’s all growed-up now; the fraternal Tulsa trio of Isaac, Taylor and Zac are all married men with eight kids between them. And they haven’t lost their talent for melody and hooks, or their debt to the Jackson 5 sound.

Their most recent album, “Shout It Out,” might be a year old, but you can see them these days alongside Kenny G., Debbie GibsonCorey FeldmanDarren Criss (“Glee”) and Rebecca Black in Katy Perry‘s new video, “Friday Night.” Or you can catch them doing what they do best Wednesday, Oct. 12, at Northern Lights in Clifton Park. Tickets go on sale 10 a.m. Saturday.

The Summer of ’97 Was a Magical One

Pittsburgh fans upset that Andrew McCutchen (above) wasn’t selected to baseball’s All-Star Game still have something to cheer about. The last time the Pirates were in post-season contention in July was 1997. The first Harry Potter book had just been released in the U.K., Hanson’s “MMMBop” was topping the charts and rookie slugger Jose Guillen and the Pirates led the National League Central with a 43-43 record heading into the All-Star break. As of Tuesday afternoon, Pittsburgh is three games over .500 and only 1.5 games behind St. Louis.

Hanson Let Fans Pick Set List For 2011 Musical Ride Tour

Fans will pick which album band will play all the way through during tour stops, beginning on September 4.

Hanson have a plan to hit the road this fall, but they don’t yet know what they’ll play. That’s because they’re letting fans vote to select which of their albums they’ll perform on each night of the 2011 Musical Ride Tour.

The tour, which kicks off in September, follows the formula the guys tried out during their 5of5 concert series in New York and London, where they would set up shop at a venue for five nights in a row and play an album all the way through each night.

“Much like the 5of5 concert series both in New York and London, which blew us away, this whole tour is about looking back in order to go forward,” Taylor Hanson explained in a statement.

The band’s debut album, Middle of Nowhere, launched the guys to pop superstardom back in 1997 thanks to the hit track “MMMBop.” Since then, they have consistently released albums, including 2010’s Shout It Out, which spawned the viral hit “Thinking ‘Bout Something,” as well as the follow-up single, “Give a Little.” Earlier this year, Hanson put their live performance skills to the test when they put on a 12-hour, live-streamed concert at South By Southwest to raise money for earthquake victims in Japan.

After previously announced shows in Los Angeles and Saskatchewan, Canada, the band will kick off the 40-city U.S. tour on September 4 in Seattle. It all wraps up on November 1 in Orlando. All dates are available on , and tickets go on sale this Friday.

“This tour is a unique way of saying thank you to the many fans that have followed the band for years, who will, for the first time, get a chance to help shape the show they see each night,” Zac Hanson added of the trek.

Recently, the guys appeared in Katy Perry’s “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)” video as the house band at the raging house party thrown by Rebecca Black. “We work for Twizzlers and good times,” Taylor told MTV News about their fee for appearing in the video. “You’d have to have a lot of spandex, a huge tree covered in toilet paper, Kenny G — apparently that’s what it takes to get us to a house party.”

HANSON Announce Fall Tour Dates for Career-Spanning Musical Ride Tour

Fans Pick Set List In Online Voting For Each Concert Tour Continues to UK/Europe and Latin America

July 5th, New York – Pop-rock trio HANSON officially announce their 2011 Musical Ride Tour, a 15-year career spanning tour, where fans will be given the chance to vote online to choose the album they want to hear the band play each night. Voting will start on Hanson.net on Monday July 11th. The shows will also include career highlights, and music from their acclaimed 5th studio album Shout It Out, featuring the smash single “Give A Little”. The 40+ city US tour will run from September 4th through November 1st, before heading to the UK, Europe and Latin America.

The Musical Ride Tour announcement comes amidst a busy summer schedule promoting the band’s summer smash “Give A Little” in the US and the UK, right on the heels of a sold-out London installment of the band’s 5of5 five-night concert series. The series, which featured each of HANSON’s albums performed in their entirety in five consecutive concerts, received critical praise and overwhelming fan response, and was preceded by the original sold-out series in New York in the Spring of 2010, and produced the 5-disc DVD box set, 5of5 available exclusively on Hanson.net.

“Much like the 5of5 concert series both in New York and London which blew us away, this whole tour is about looking back in order to go forward”, says Taylor.

Adds drummer Zac “This tour is a unique way of saying thank you to the many fans that have followed the band for years, who will, for the first time, get a chance to help shape the show they see each night”.

The tour also builds on the band’s reputation as a dynamic live act, with acclaim from indie cred stalwarts The Village Voice who called them “The finest straight up rock band in America”. The model of this tour’s fan engagement is in step with the band’s history of innovating online and focusing on a direct-to-fan relationship throughout their career. Previously the band has hosted opening band contests for local independent artists, nightly livestreams of performances, chats and interviews, and custom mobile check-in’s at shows.

The band’s 5th studio album Shout It Out debuted at #2 on the Billboard independent charts to critical acclaim, and has seen increased fan fervor with the infectious summer smash “Give A Little”, and the soul-inspired “Thinkin ’Bout Somethin’” with it’s iconic homage to the Blues Brothers film and classic rock’n’roll and soul music.
