What do the guys do after the show?
Desmond Child tells how he wrote “Weird” for Hanson

Meanwhile, several other notable acts featuring siblings have scaled the Hot 100 over the years. Among them: AC/DC, The Black Crowes, Creedence Clearwater Revival (owners of five No. 2 hits), Devo, The Gap Band, The Kinks, Oasis, The Pointer Sisters, The Proclaimers, The Psychedelic Furs, Sister Sledge and Tavares.
Plus, acts with siblings continue to infuse the charts, including The Aces, AJR, The Avett Brothers, Cage the Elephant, Echosmith, First Aid Kit, Greta Van Fleet, Haim and Pierce the Veil.
Another is The Rua, the trio of Alanna, Jonathan and Roseanna Brown, new on the latest Adult Pop Songs chart (dated March 30) with ballad “Gasoline,” their fourth entry on the list. Fun fact: In addition to their musical wizardry, all three siblings appeared in multiple Harry Potter movies, as Hogwarts students (sorted into Gryffindor, Hufflepuff and Slytherin, respectively).

Live Art Returns

The band of brothers known as Hanson is among the performers at SPARC’s annual Live Art concert next month. (Photo by Jonathan Weiner)
Last year, the School of the Performing Arts in the Richmond Community’s annual concert brought some big names to the stage. This year, the event lives up to its theme, (“Live Art: Family”) by featuring local performers, a famous family band that has been rocking since the ’90s, an esteemed alumnus and hundreds of students from the area who are enrolled in the school.
Former SPARC student and two-time Grammy winner Jason Mraz (“I’m Yours,” “I Won’t Give Up”) will return to anchor the June event and he’ll be joined by the pop band Hanson (“MMMbop”), “American Idol” contestant Shayla Winn and Richmonder and jazz singer Desirée Roots, among others. The concert is is the grand finale of the school’s Live Art program, which uses performance art to teach children with varying developmental abilities. Since 2012, the organization has capped the program with a massive concert featuring national, regional and local talent.
“Live Art: Family” happens on Saturday, June 2, at 4 p.m. at the Altria Theater. Tickets go on sale April 12 at 10 a.m.

It is Isaac that is not a pessimist but an idealist.

Where Are the Hanson Brothers Now?
Entertainment Cheat Sheet
There once was a time when you couldn’t listen to the radio (this was before the invention of iTunes, Spotify, or Pandora) without hearing “MMMBop” by Hanson, a boy band made up of the Hanson brothers. It’s been 22 years since their song first hit the airwaves. So, where are the Hanson brothers now?
In 1997, the Hanson brothers — Isaac, Taylor, and Zac — had long hair and wore necklaces and plaid shirts. It was the nineties after all. But since then they’ve
They never stopped making music
Hanson has continued creating new music and touring for the last 25 years sans the long hair. The brothers founded the band in 1992 when they were 11, nine, and six years old. Now in their thirties, they don’t seem to have slowed down one bit since their rise to fame.
The band’s newest album, String Theory, uses symphonic arrangements and encompasses 22 songs from their catalog of songs including “MMMBop.”
They publish weekly photos on their website, go on tour, hold special shows, and have established Hanson Day, a celebration of the band’s founding combining music, art, and community.
Aside from their music careers, the brothers have another passion, beer. Together they founded The Hanson Brothers Beer Co. based in Tulsa, Oklahoma. They donate a portion of their sales to charity, give away a free song with every bottle of beer, and go by the formula, “Beer + Music = Awesome.”
The brothers now have children of their own
Between the three brothers (who are three of seven children) they have 13 kids.
“It’s a cool thing,” Zac told Lorraine Kelly during a March episode of the U.K. daytime show, Lorraine, according to People. “We spend a lot of time together touring, in the studio and around each other, so our kids know each other really, really well,” Zac said.
Taylor, 35, has six kid with his wife, Natalie Bryant. Taylor and Bryant got married in Georgia in 2002. They have four sons: Claude Indiana Emmanuel, 11 weeks, Viggo Moriah, 10, River Samuel, 12, and Jordan Ezra, 16. And two daughters: Wilhelmina “Willa” Jane, 6, and Penelope “Penny” Anne, 13.
Zac, 33, dated his girlfriend, Kate Tucker, for five years before getting married in June 2006. Zac and Tucker have four children: Mary Lucille Diana, who is almost 3, George Abraham Walker, 5, Junia Rosa Ruth, 8, and John Ira Shepherd, 10.
Isaac, 38, got married in October 2006 to Nicole Dufresne in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Together they have three children. A daughter, Nina Odette, who is four-and-a-half years old, and two sons James Monroe, 10, and Clarke Everett, 11.
They want to ‘stand the test of time’
In the band’s interview with People, they discussed the diversity of their music. “A well-written song, in our mind, is one that can be reinvented and refined and re-skinned and still be good,” Taylor said.
This concept plays into their newest album. It’s also how they keep their most popular and well-known songs feeling fresh.
“A song like ‘MMMBop,’ our most known song, we’ve played it acoustically [and so many other ways] … and now it’s wrapped around a symphony and a whole new life and energy comes to it. So our takeaway is that a good song can stand the test of time and can take you to new places.”

‘We’re not running away from our past’: Hanson on reinvention and coping with the craziness
Milbank Monitor
Hanson have been hitting the charts for over 25 years now, but to many, they’re still that trio of long-haired tweens singing MmmBop.
But even though they’re all in their thirties, with 11 albums under their belts and families over their own, they’re not trying to make you forget about their nineties pop classics.
Isaac Hanson admitted that while the band is eager to reinvent themselves all the time, they’re not ‘running away’ from their earlier success.
Speaking to Metro ahead of their String Theory tour coming to the UK, the 38-year-old said: ‘Every band has their own unique set of challenges. In our case, we started off very very young, and made a strong impression because of that youth. You definitely want to encourage people to rediscover what you’re doing in different ways. You need to challenge yourself every time you make a record, and you need to make new statements and tell new stories every time, otherwise there’s no reason for anyone to pay attention.
‘We are in a constant place of telling new stories and reinvention in some way or another, but I would not say we’re running from our past. We feel very comfortable in what we have done in our lives and our musical careers, and what we’re doing on this show and our album is a good example of that – it’s very much something we’re excited to continually share and have a part of what we do.’
Hanson still have the classic in their String Theory tour, but with a twist – as this tour accompanied by a live orchestra.
Isaac explained: ‘The idea for String Theory goes back a couple of years, when we were preparing for our 25th anniversary. We had originally planned to do a handful of shows with a symphony as a celebratory thing. Generally on your birthday you do exciting things with friends! But as we looked into it, we realised we needed more time to do what we were setting out to do, so we started planning something different. Rather than finding ourselves in a situation where we’re played singles familiar to people with an orchestra, we were able to basically write an album and show from top to bottom with an orchestra in mind.
‘There are absolutely differences and challenges [with performing with an orchestra]. It was really a process of stripping back the band.
‘In some cases, in MmmBop for example, you have almost exclusively orchestra, and the three of us with an acoustic guitar at the beginning. And one of the new tracks, Siren Call, has vocals, the rhythm track by Taylor, Zac and I, and then the orchestra. There are also multiple cases in various songs, like Where Is The Love, where there are orchestral breaks where the band dropped out and the orchestra just plays. You don’t want to do this sort of think and have them basically be background – even on a purely monetary level, it’s a waste of money, but on a musical level more importantly, it is a waste of emotional depth and opportunity.’
Isaac – the eldest of the band – says that the orchestra does lend a more mellow vibe to the tour, but promises that fans old and new will still be entertained.
The guitarist said: ‘It is definitely a show that any fan who has been around from the beginning until now can appreciate and enjoy. It’s definitely a show that’s a little bit more mellow, in the sense that it starts slower and ramps up. Hanson shows normally are pretty in your face and bombastic, we tend to start our shows with either a lot of energy or a bunch of loud guitars to get people in the mood. But in this case, the show starts with a ballad, which sets the tone for the whole show.’
Hanson are always on the road, having five tours in the past five years alone – something that’s even more impressive considering the guys’ family lives
Isaac is a dad of three, Zac, 33, has four kids, and
More:
‘That’s why we go on the road,’ Isaac laughed. ‘Nah, just kidding! Honestly, on a very personal note, my kids are my favourite thing about my life. One of the greatest things about being a parent is that they inject a positive amount of youthful exuberance and a hint of naivety into the world around you, which keeps you optimistic and young. As far as keeping sanity and coping with all that craziness – life is crazy, it’s just about what crazy you choose to live.
‘I don’t think that being single is any less exhausting than being a parent – it’s just a different type of exhaustion. It involves more hangovers. Parenting can involve hangovers too, it just may not be the same kind.’
The String Theory International Tour plays Birmingham’s Symphony Hall on 11 February, Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall on 12 February, Nottingham’s Rock City on 14 February (non-symphony show), London’s Royal Festival Hall on 15 February, and Glasgow’s Royal Concert Hall on 17 February.
