Hanson May Have Fans, But they’re Not Buying CDs

My dear Hanson fans:

You are a devoted group but you’re not buying CDs.

According to Nielsen Soundscan, the new Hanson album, “Shout it Out,” has sold a paltry 31,000 copies.

The most recent one before that was called “Walk.” Total sales to date from 2007: 54,000 copies.

The days of “MMMBop” are long since passed. This doesn’t mean Hanson are not talented musicians. It’s just that their day in the sun has come and gone. This can be said for plenty of acts. I wish them well in all their endeavors.

Most fans also buy digital copies through itunes and other places such as zune and sounds box.
They are not hard copies but STILL are an authorized copy purchased at full price.

I believe SoundScan is the source of Billboards charts and I had always heard that iTunes, etc were included in the charts so it seems like fans just aren’t buying the album period – whether it be a hard copy CD or a digital download from an authorized outlet.

How can you compare the two when The Walk numbers are over 3 years time and SIO has only been available for purchase for a few months? Wait another three years and see how SIO compares to where The Walk is now.

Well, in contrast to the walk SIO is not avalaible in a big number of countries. I would love to buy SIO, but its just not available in Germany!!!
