Hanson’s “MMMBop” Live 26 Years Later is Still A Dead Set Banger So Get Ready To Sing Along To Every Line With The Boys At Their Hometown Show

By | March 19, 2025

The Music Man

Any ’90s kids in the house? Get ready for a nostalgia trip hearing Hanson rock their 1997 smash hit “MMMBop” 26 years later! The Hanson brothers are now in the 30s and 40s (where did all those years go?), and they still cut a gorgeous vocal trio at their performance at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. The brothers’ hometown performance in Tulsa, Oklahoma, featured some sensational lead vocals from Taylor Hanson, while Isaac and Zac provided some on-point harmonies.

It’s not easy to deliver such a complex vocal arrangement live, but the brothers were all over it, while also holding it down on keyboard, guitar and drums. “MMMBop” was the 12th biggest song of 1997 thanks to all those sugary hooks. Any The Music Man readers who were around back in the ’90s probably sang along to the song a million times – I know I did – and it’s still just as fun to sing those rhymes now.

Fan channel Hansonized uploaded the Tulsa performance to YouTube on December 26, 2023, and it has since gained one million views. Fans came together to celebrate the classic pop tune, adding comments such as “We sang it at the top of our lungs as preteeens and teens. But the lyrics hit different now. An expression about fine wine comes to mind.” and “I was 27 when this song came out and I just loved it. It’s the kind of song that would lift your spirit no matter what mood you were in, a great feel-good song.”

If you think watching 2023 performance was nostalgic, get ready for a real big throwback to Hanson’s 1997 Italian television performance of “MMMBop” for Festivalbar. Fourteen-year-old Taylor’s voice is just as heavenly – the song was bound to be a hit with that kind of talent behind the mic. The performance again highlights the group’s talent as a vocal group, and also musicians. Even young Zac at just 12 years old crushes it behind the drum kit.

Hanson released “MMMBop” on April 15, 1997, as the lead single from their debut studio album Middle of Nowhere. The song was written by Isaac, Taylor, and Zac Hanson, while the Dust Brothers and Stephen Lironi handled production. Zac spoke to Songfacts in 2004 about the inspiration behind the song, saying, “If anything, ‘MMMBop’ was inspired by The Beach Boys and vocal groups of that era – using your voice as almost a doo-wop kind of thing. It was something we almost stumbled upon.”

HANSON: Changes Coming

HANSON DAY 2025 + Big Changes for HANSON.NET & HDAY Coming

This year is the 25th anniversary of HANSON.net. These years have allowed us to foster a thriving community of people who are connected by a common thread, music. Through this special bond, we have been able to grow and foster connections with people across the globe. What started on March 31st, 2000, as an internet service provider has grown and changed in ways we never could have imagined, and has enabled us to withstand the changing landscape of our industry. Through thick and thin, we have felt the unwavering devotion of you, our Hanson.net members. Thank you!

One particularly special thing this online community has facilitated is our physical Members Only Events. For 15+ years HANSON DAY has been a landmark gathering of the community in our home town, which features special activities, concerts and a chance for members to connect with one another.

This week we’re sharing the official schedule of events and posting tickets for a simplified HDAY 2025 (May 22nd – 24th) which features our most popular events – concerts, karaoke & a dance party, See full event schedule here.

Big Changes for Hanson.net.
At the center of HANSON.net is a band of brothers who have stood side by side working to make music we love, and to share that love with others, for 33 years. Our mission for HANSON.net has always been to give YOU, our members, the kind of access and experience that we would hope to get from our favorite bands. After months of consideration, heading toward this 25th anniversary milestone, we believe there is a need for evolution and change in the coming year. We are looking ahead to plan for some significant changes in the coming year, and those changes will come in a few forms.

HANSON.NET membership is going to change.
Starting March 30th all memberships will be offered as a pro-rated monthly offering, and this new offering will be provided until March 31st 2026. After that date, the current membership offering will conclude. During this year of reflection, we will be working to determine if there is a new model for HANSON.NET which aligns with our plans for the future.

2025 Members EP
The H.net members EP is a key part of every year’s membership. Because of the outpouring of love for the Underneath Experience tour, the 2025 Hanson.net EP will not be five songs, but instead a double live album, including more than 40 songs mixed and mastered and exclusively available to Hanson.net members (this one’s for you, Pat).

What is most important to us is that you know how incredibly grateful we are to YOU. Thank you for sticking with us through so many seasons. We have always been guided by an aspiration for the future and the determination to wade through life’s challenges with a spirit of optimism. We have been so incredibly blessed to have you as a Hanson.net member in all its forms. What a gift it has been to create a community that has been shared by so many around the globe. Thank you for making that possible. We’re excited to see you in Tulsa this May!

Thanks for being a part of HANSON.net, and thanks for listening – Isaac, Taylor and Zac
