Last year’s Roots & Rock ‘N’ Roll Tour gave us a lot of ideas for how we might celebrate our 25th anniversary. It was a great tour and next year’s tour will be even better. Here’s a pic from a great show in Dallas last fall.


MESSAGE FROM THE BAND

This has been another week focused on planning and general behind the scenes activities. Everything from studio cleaning and maintenance to having conversations with potential producers for upcoming projects.  We are working to make 2017 a real celebration of our band turning 25. Speaking of our 25th, last week we asked Hanson.net members to pick their top 25 HANSON songs and the results to date have been, well, surprising. Some songs you might expect to be popular like Where’s The Love or Underneath have not even made it to the top 25 overall songs picked and no single song has been on more than 60% of submissions. Once voting is complete, it will be fun to compare our lists to all of yours and see how that might affect coming projects and things like what we play on tour in 2017.  Thank you for over two decades of shared moments, music, and love. With any luck, we can keep it going till at least 2042.

2016 LOUD PLAY ORNAMENT PRE-ORDER

The Best of the Rest

Currently Hanson is having Hanson.net members vote for their “Top 25” of album songs and b-sides.  While you’ve all got your thinking caps on, we are going to hold our own poll we are calling “The Best of the Rest” which is compiled from EPs, Member Kits, HNet exclusives and soundtracks.  The rules are the same – pick 25.  We’ll compile a list at the beginning of September to see what won!

MESSAGE FROM THE BAND

If your work is getting you down, you might check out the latest Members-Only video from the making of Loud where we ponder turning procrastination into a musical state of being.  This week we are back to the grindstone, working on refining plans for our 25th anniversary in 2017.  We have so many cool ideas, but actually pulling them will be the real art form.  As we look back at a lifelong career, we are forced to face the task of distilling the music that best represents us.  We have our own ideas, but starting Monday we are going to be asking Hanson.net members to share their top 25 songs.  Vote with care, as your input may have lasting effects!

We are happy to announce we are now finished with the design for the LP special edition vinyl package. You can now head over to the Hanson.net store and see the mock-ups of the vinyl artwork which include Zac’s painting print and Taylor’s 8″x10″ photo that will be included in the set.  Putting Loud and Play together as one LP was always the driving concept for these EPs and seeing them put together is a vision realized.  The only thing left to do is to hold the final product in our hands.

Scholars and Rogues

When they first hit in 1997 with “MMMBop,” I remember Hanson being dismissed by my music intelligentsia friends as some kind of put-up job, a prefab kiddie novelty act. Thing is, it wasn’t true. At all. The brothers Hanson – Taylor, Isaac and Zac – were legit talented, their shiny, radio-friendly sound underpinned by a rich sense of Chicago R&B rhythm and Gospel-inflected harmony. (It’s fun trying to write in hipster-reviewer speak, init? Hey, I’ve been telling you for years I ain’t no reviewer.)

Now, nearly two decades on, they’re better than ever. Let’s kick today’s #SVR with a recent acoustic performance of that hit, one that strips down to the naked essence of a worthy pop gem.

Here’s the lads are riffing on Blues Brothers. One of the most infectious tunes I’ve heard in years. Admit it – you wish you were in this video.

We had a great time performing on the new ABC show, “Greatest Hits,” which aired last week. This is a pic from our acoustic performance of “MMMbop,” back to the original way we played the song with just three voices and a guitar.

It was a treat to see a lot of familiar faces in Connecticut this week.  With our focus on recording projects and planning for our 25th anniversary next year, we are not playing a lot of concerts this summer so that makes each one feel more important and appreciated.  We are thinking about new projects and among other things that means Christmas.  We have been asking Hanson.net members to weigh in with the top five songs they would like to see us record on a new Christmas album.  There are so many memories and traditions that become associated with Holiday music, we are just enjoying the taste of picking the songs that will end up on the nice list.

Fan Club Exclusive: After years of fans asking, we are finally going to record a second Christmas album.  We will be going into the studio this fall, but before we do we want to hear from all of you. What songs would you like to see make the cut for Wintery Mix?  Submit your top five songs with title and also the artist you think did it best so we can get about the business of getting in the Holiday mood. Speaking of the Christmas mood, nothing sets the mood like a well appointed tree.  We have created seven designs all inspired by the 2016 EP’sLoud and Play and we want you to vote to choose which design will end up on the nice list.
