Hop Jam: Hanson launching 25th anniversary tour, opening band contest set

Hanson will kick off a 25th anniversary world tour by performing as the music headliner at the fourth annual Hop Jam Festival. Hop Jam 2017 will take place Sunday, May 21 in downtown Tulsa’s Brady Arts District.

Hanson is a co-founder of Hop Jam, Oklahoma’s largest craft beer and music festival.

“We’re thrilled to announce the incredible lineup of brewers and artists taking part in this year’s Hop Jam, and excited to return to the stage to kick off our 25th year together,” said Taylor Hanson, who, along with brothers Isaac and Zac, make up the band Hanson. “We got our start 25 years ago right here in The Brady District.”

The music festival will again feature an all-ages free concert on two stages.

Joining Main Stage headliner Hanson will be Mayer Hawthorne, Kongos, Castro and Oklahoma natives John Fullbright and Johnny Polygon, plus an opening band that will be chosen by way of a contest.

The Craft Beer Festival will include more than 100 craft beers. It will bring together brewers from Oklahoma and all over the country, including local and regional favorites like Marshall, COOP, Boulevard and Hanson Brothers Beer, as well as coveted rare beers and iconic brands like Stone, Unibroue, Almanac, Flying Dog, Rahr & Sons, Destihl, Evil Twin, Sixpoint and Founders.

Hanson is again partnering with the McNellie’s Group to host the beer festival. The organizations have a shared interest in cultivating the craft beer community and fostering world-class events in the state.

Hop Jam tickets are on sale now. Multiple ticket levels are available online, including unlimited beer tasting, early entry, a VIP lounge and entry into the Hop Talks, where leading brewers share insights into their brewing process.

Ticket packages also include a limited edition hat, lanyard and tasting cup. Also on offer is a special music VIP ticket, designed for the discerning music fan, with a special reserved viewing area and its own VIP lounge.

Ticket and event information is available at www.TheHopJam.com.

Hanson announced March 9 on social media that a world tour announcement was coming March 13. The homegrown band, which prides itself on a unique blend of soulful pop/rock with harmony-driven melodies, was formed in May of 1992.

The lads in Hanson spent five years building a fan base as an independent band. Then came a meteoric rise with the 1997 international smash single “MMMBop” from a debut album (“Middle of Nowhere”) that earned three Grammy nominations.

More hits and more albums followed. Hanson has sold over 16 million albums, according to the band’s official site, hanson.net.

Though Hanson’s first love is music, the band also has an interest in craft beer. Hanson Brothers Beer’s flagship beer is named Mmmhops.

According to a release, this year’s Hop Jam Festival is proud to acknowledge some of the key partners helping lend their support to make the event possible, including iHeart Media, KMOD, The Beat, Tulsa World Media, Jaguar Land Rover, LDF, Tulsa Film + Music Office, the BOK Center and many more.

Hanson did not play the headlining gig at last year’s Hop Jam, but band members took the stage for the encore, along with other bands who played throughout the day. After the 2016 Hop Jam, a Tulsa World reviewer wrote that Hop Jam “easily solidified its place as a must for Oklahoma festivals.”

Taylor Hanson (Governor) Tulsa, OK

What do you do in the music industry?

I am a lifelong musician, performing with my two brothers in our group HANSON, which has it’s 25th anniversary this year. Songwriting, recording and performing are all in equal parts important to my life as an artist and musician. I am also co-founder and CEO of our label 3CG Records, founded in 2003. Since we started the label, we have released four studio albums, along with many additional projects.

What does being a member of The Recording Academy mean to you?

Being a part of the Academy means a great deal to me as a fan of other great artists, and as an artist and member of our diverse industry. I see the Academy as a platform to help continue to bring attention to the importance of music and the arts in our communities.

What advice would you give someone wanting to get into the music industry?

Know who you are and learn to get used to hearing the word no. The word no is where the job starts.

What makes the Oklahoma music community so special?

Oklahoma has a great heritage of music from country to pop and rock, and for us the greatest strength of Oklahoma music is the authenticity of the artists that have come out of this state. They are not the same but they all have a depth which I think comes from being in a real place with strong values. Whatever gifts people have, they work hard at sharing them. That is in the Oklahoma ethos.

What projects are you currently working on?

We are currently finishing a Christmas album to be released Christmas 2017, and planning a world tour to celebrate our 25th anniversary.

Hanson, un ‘one hit wonder’ també en les cerveses

Hanson, a ‘one hit wonder’ also beers

The three brothers become successful thanks to a group song ‘MMMBop’ now recall that title to conquer the field of craft beverages

There are few phenomena known to popular music that one hit wonders. Artists who have created a race around a single commercial success. Who has not sung I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles) by The Proclaimers – dererembá! – The Tubthumping by Chumbawamba or immortal Never Gonna Give You Up King ephemeral successes, Rick Astley. Few songs have been as big as that achieved in 1997 MMMBop topic. Back with a hook and easy to sing even for the most inept in English propelled the careers of the three brothers face have not left the egg.

Isaac, Taylor and Zac Hanson experienced firsthand how it can express the success of a single song to your absolute wear. MMMBop was number one in the list of countries on five continents, he became the youngest musicians to reach the top of the US Billboard, along with Michael Jackson, and was the only reason why his album Middle of Nowhere reached the 10 million copies sold. Around even generated all kinds of documentaries, merchandising and a dispute with the record that ended the three brothers created their own label to continue his career.

You can not say that the trio halt his musical activity right after that outburst. In fact, his latest album -Anthem- date of 2013. But more than a succession of jobs and a solid fan base, which has enabled the group to continue in music is that first success. MMMBop has kept the memory of Hanson for 20 years. But everything has an end, and the most famous brothers from Tulsa -two decades afterwards thought that maybe it was time to reinvent itself.

And reinventing Hanson has little to do with music. With 30 years in the backs and a surname to exploit the former singers created in 2013 Hanson Brothers Beer Company, a craft beer that seek to keep his name in the collective imaginary American .

What started as a proposal to accompany the release of their latest album has become his main professional adventure. “We love craft beer and ale have created an American classic, very robust, but very inspiring. In fact, we always take a beer before you get to compose “the brothers explained in an interview with Bloomberg promotional.

And the reality is that Hanson has rediscovered the success that gave the music. The first variety, Mmmhop is still the main attraction of the company. The beer is distributed in 16 US states, has been awarded the prestigious Gold Medal of the Beverage Tasting Institute and its millions of sales allocated to the reconstruction of the areas most affected by tornadoes that Oklahoma ‘s have occurred in recent years.

A new one hit wonder for the biography of the Hanson family.

SXSW: Check out acts that stand above, and might mean standing in line

Hanson: Teen and pre-teen brothers Isaac, Taylor and Zac Hanson famously sang a cappella to badgeholders sitting in the bleachers at the 1994 SXSW softball game and ended up with a management deal that led to a Mercury Records contract. Their 1997 major-label debut “Middle of Nowhere” went multi-platinum behind the stratospheric success of the single “MMMBop.” Now in their 30s, the brothers have continued to make records and tour.
