Four minutes with… Hanson

A FAR cry from their mid-nineties success, Hanson find themselves appealing to a new generation of fans.

1. LEGALLY BLIND

At the height of the band’s MmmBop success youngest brother Zac was still nine years away from legal drinking age. “That’s true, but you’re not using your imagination if you think we couldn’t get access to what you want,” he says. “But we’ve always purposed to be known for what we do – not what we’ve done.”

2. THE FAME GAME

Zac , Isaac and Taylor had a lot of fun. “People don’t normally get to meet presidents and travel the world or sit on stage or sing with Paul McCartney and Brian Wilson,” Zac says. “Taylor went to see a U2 show and went backstage and Larry Mullen Jr was like, ‘Oh, where’s Zac?’ Those guys shouldn’t even know who I am.”

3. THROUGH THE AGES

Far from its teeny(mmm)bopper roots, Hanson is a multi-generational band nowadays. “We’re seeing a second generation of fans, which makes me feel old,” Zac says. “But I pinch myself because I’m only 26 – I know I’m not old yet. It’s crazy to be doing it long enough that people know us from different generations.”

4. BOYS WILL BE GIRLS

On one episode of cult animated classic Family Guy, Peter Griffin’s innapropriate neighbour Quagmire was convinced that Taylor was a girl. “It’s definitely flattery,” Zac says with a laugh. “We laugh at it, too. A good joke is a good joke.”
