Hanson performs ‘MMMBop’ on ‘Dancing With the Stars’
Brother band Hanson appeared on “Dancing With the Stars” last night to perform their 1997 hit “MMMBop,” prompting me to search for my “Now That’s What I Call Music, Vol. 1” CD.
The adorable trio who broke hearts in the late ’90s were reduced to acting as the house band on the ABC show, singing songs such as Lionel Richie’s “Hello” after commercial breaks, but will get to perform a new song of their own on tomorrow night’s show.
Hanson ‘MMMBop’s on ‘Dancing With the Stars’
Jiro Schneider Boy-turned-man-band Hanson took it way back with a performance of their 1997 smash hit ‘MMMBop’ on last night’s episode (Monday, April 26) of ‘Dancing With the Stars‘ for their ‘Guilty Pleasures’-themed week of shows.
The trio of brothers may no longer be baby-faced adolescents, but they charmed the ‘Dancing’ audience with their upbeat, No. 1 debut single all the same. The guys, who some may classify as one-hit-wonders, proved that they have a good sense of humor about their early success by taking on the show’s ‘Guilty Pleasures’ gig.
The band of brothers have been keeping busy since their moment in the sun over a decade ago. Hanson recently dropped the second single ‘Give a Little’ from their eighth studio album ‘Shout It Out,’ which was remixed by both Questlove and RAC. The golden boys also lent their talents to charity in a telethon to benefit the Japan earthquake relief efforts.
Hanson Perform Billy Ray Cyrus’ Hit ‘Achy Breaky Heart’ on ‘Dancing With the Stars’
Hanson (of ‘Mmmbop’ fame) served as the house band on last night’s episode of ‘Dancing With the Stars,’ and they were in fine form, going as far as bringing a little country to the show while performing a snippet of Billy Ray Cyrus‘ huge country hit from the ’90s, ‘Achy Breaky Heart.’
The Hanson brothers went twangy and did the song proud, showing off their countrified chops. Who knew they had it in them? If Lady Gaga can go country, so can Hanson! Country music is the wave of the future for pop stars and Hanson getting all ‘Achy Breaky’ on ‘DWTS’ is indicative of that fact.
The Hanson boys, wearing suits and suspenders and sporting more close-cut crops nowadays, have become men, but they have not lost their ability to play. In addition to employing a tambourine for ‘Achy Breaky Heart,’ Hanson played the full version of their own hit ‘Mmmbop’ as well as a handful of other smashes across genres, such Vanilla Ice’s hip-hop hit ‘Ice Ice Baby’ and Lionel Richie’s mournful ballad ‘Hello.’
The song choices were all a part of ‘Guilty Pleasures’ week on ‘DWTS,’ and Hanson will be back on the show tonight to give viewers a taste of their current single, ‘Give a Little,’ off of their latest album, ‘Shout It Out.’
