Shocking news: Hanson recording album of Slipknot covers

MusicRadar

You remember Hanson, right? That teen trio of brothers who made a big, multi-platinum splash in the ’90s with their oh-so-poppy song MMMBop? Sure you do. Turns out the Hanson boys, uh, men are huge metalheads, and they’re proving it in a most unexpected way – by covering Slipknot!

Several days ago, a video surfaced on YouTube showing Isaac, Taylor and Zac Hanson working on a version of Wait And Bleed, which was the first single from Slipknot’s 1999 debut album. At first, the brothers stayed MMMum on what was supposedly a leaked clip. But in an interview with ShockHound, they finally admitted that they were indeed recording an album of Skipknot covers.

“We have always cited classic soul and rock and roll as an inspiration, but we have had long-time respect for heavy metal and bands like Slipknot who capture true angst,” drummer Zac Hanson said. Of the album itself, which has no title or release date as of yet, guitarist Isaac Hanson said that it’s “been in the works for some time.”

And yes…this is an April Fool’s joke! Don’t feel bad – we totally fell for it ourselves. Thanks, ShockHound, for a good laugh.

ShockHound Exclusive: Hanson Making Album Of Slipknot Covers

ShockHound

Hanson started out as a trio of brothers singing a capella harmonies, rose to multi-platinum fame as a teen pop band, and have since gone on to carve out their own successful niche as independent artists respected for their musical proficiency and their tireless charity work. And now, the boys who brought us “MMMBop” want to show us their MMMmetal side.
Several days ago, a mysterious video surfaced on the internet showing Isaac, Taylor and Zac Hanson in a hotel room, playing “Wait and Bleed,” the lead single from Slipknot’s self-titled 1999 debut. Though the brothers initially declined to comment on the leaked video (which you can watch below), they finally admitted to ShockHound yesterday that it was filmed on the road during the tour for their latest album, Shout It Out — and that they were practicing the ‘Knot classic as a warm-up for their next album, which will consist entirely of Slipknot covers.
“We have always cited classic soul and rock and roll as an inspiration, but we have had long-time respect for heavy metal and bands like Slipknot who capture true angst,” drummer Zac Hanson told us.
In a very special exclusive, the brothers have agreed to let us stream their pre-production demo of “Wait and Bleed” on ShockHound; just click the “play” button above to have a listen…and maybe have your mind blown, as well.
“This project has been in the works for some time,” says guitarist Isaac Hanson. “When we saw there was a leaked video, we thought we should at least put up something that more accurately represents the project. It’s still an early version, but we’re excited about it — and we wanted ShockHound users to be the first to hear it!”
While there’s currently no title or release date set for Hanson’s Slipknot covers album, we have to say we’re really looking forward to hearing their versions of “Skin Ticket,” “The Heretic Anthem” and “People = Shit.”

Hanson’s “MMMBop” Voted Best Single of 1900-1999, Kanye West furious

By | April 1, 2011

The Music Cycle

While Arcade Fire may have surprised many when they won the Grammy for album of the year, nothing could have prepared the world for this.

Zogby International, a prominent international research facility recently conducted a poll to figure out what the world thought the best song of the previous century was. The poll was sponsored through a joint effort between MTV, Apple, Rolling Stone magazine and Charlie Sheen. Over 30 million participants from several countries were asked what their favourite song was from 1900-1999. Oddly enough, there was one song that got the popular vote by a wide margin. That song is “MMMBop”.

“MMMBop” is a hit single from 1997. The song reached the #1 position in 11 countries and managed to reach the top five in four other countries. It was written and performed by Hanson, a trio of brothers that formed a band. The track proved to be the pinnacle of their success. Soon after, they faded from the mainstream public’s minds and into obscurity.

While the band is now on their own independent label, apparently “MMMBop” lived on in the hearts of many. While the exact numbers of the poll have not been released, the company did say that “MMMBop” received a lot more votes than its competitors. The band has yet to release a statement, but rumors are circulating that the boys are planning a huge comeback.

Other songs that received a substantial number of votes include “Money For Nothing” by The Dire Straits, “U Can’t Touch This” by MC Hammer, “Little Ole Man (Uptight, Everything’s Alright)” by Bill Cosby and “Lost in You” by Chris Gaines. A representative of Zogby International suggested that there may be a follow up poll asking the public to name their favourite album from 1900-1999.

In another twist, Kanye West was reportedly enraged with the results, going as far as threatening the company’s secretary via telephone. A representative from the company said West seemed furious yelling, “Ima let you finish, but I’m the best of all time,” repeatedly. Apparently West felt his music was better than “MMMBop” and that he should have “won the poll”, despite the fact that all his music’s been released post-1999.

What is the very first memory of Hanson that you have? I was 9 years old and at a friends house. She had the Hanson trivia book and I thought the guys were Hott and she showed me the video for mmmbop and I has hooked.

How many times have you seen Hanson in concert? Favorite concert memory? Only seen them once November 21st 2010 Burlington Vt. Fave memory: Being lucky enough to get front row and witnessing Zac hold a note for 27 seconds on Oh Darlin breaking his personal record

What is your favorite Hanson song, and why? Oh this ones hard… So many I can relate to. I’m gonna pick with you in your dreams because I’ve always loved the song and since my mom passed away in 2008 I can relate to it. I couldn’t relate to it before she passed. I think of her every time I listen to it.

Why do you like/love Hanson? I love Hanson because in a way I have grown up with them, they have been my favorite band since I was 9 years old. They do so much for their fans, more then I’ve seen any other band do. They believe in their cause with their charity, they are hands on with everything they do. They are so talented in everything to (singers, musicians, and artists.) And its not like they play only one instruments, they are all around the most talented guys.

How long have you been a Hanson fan? 13 goin on 14 years

Why should you be FAN OF THE MONTH? Because I am a loyal fan of 13 years, I am apart of the street team and take it very seriously. Anything that is asked of the street team I participate in. I believe in their cause and enjoyed taking the walk. I have a collection of all Hanson that I take very seriously and continue to add to it. I can’t even bring myself to listen to other music… I get bored with it quickly, but I never get bored of Hanson.
