If you’re going to pay a sonic visit to the ’90s, really, there’s no better collaborator than Hanson, the trio of brothers out of Tulsa, Oklahoma who dominated the decade with tunes like ”MMMBop.” Which, presumably, is the same conclusion Adam Young, the singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and electronica artist who produces music as Owl City, drew before he reached out for his newest track, “Unbelievable.”

The song reads like an episode of VH1’s I Love The 90s with references to the Goosebumps books, Spaghettios, Saturdays spent with your Nintendo console and Jurassic Park over a whistling, upbeat backing.

“Hanson was a total dream collaboration for me,” he tells EW. “I was born in the mid-’80s but grew up in the ’90s, so I am around the same age as those guys, and we connected on a lot of the subjects in the song ‘Unbelievable.’ I just reached out to them, sent them the song, introduced myself and said I’d be thrilled to work with them if they might find the idea appealing at all. They wrote back and said they were down to do it. They wrote Verse 2, added some additional production and just kind of did what felt natural to them, all of which I loved. So imagine me, someone who grew up loving this band, to suddenly have the chance to collaborate on a song of my own was totally surreal. They were the nicest, easiest guys to work with.”

Monday, Owl City is debuting an animated video for the peppy track, exclusively on EW. A VHS tape heads back through their favorite games and memories—here’s to hoping they’re your favorites as well.

Owl City’s fifth full length, Mobile Orchestra, is due out July 10 and is currently available for pre-order.
