CLEVELAND, Ohio – When Bill Withers is inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on April 18, you can bet your life you will, at some point during the ceremony, hear “Ain’t No Sunshine.”
Withers’ biggest pop hit may be “Lean On Me.” But his debut single, “Ain’t No Sunshine,” is the song people have gravitated towards most over the years.
It’s simplistic vibe and raw nature makes it an easy song to cover. Though, no cover has matched the original, here are nine that are special in their own way:
Hanson
It sounds kind of odd to think that kids responsible “MMMbop” grew up to be blues musicians capable of covering a Withers classic. Yet, don’t underestimate Hanson. The three brothers’ acoustic rendition of “Ain’t No Sunshine” is easily one of the best you’ll find, driven primarily by older brother Isaac, whose vocals never miss the mark.
