GIG REVIEW: HANSON AT THE 100 CLUB

Thursday February 3 2011 by Leah Simpson and Kira Agass for Express.co.uk

AMERICAN rockers Hanson are the latest in a long line of artists joining the bid the save London’s prestigious 100 Club.
Since 100 Club owner Jeff Horton announced that the venue was under threat of closing last year, musicians including Paul McCartney, Ronnie Wood and Liam Gallagher have joined forces to stop what some say is the inevitable.

Now Oklahoma-based brothers, Hanson, are on board the crusade to save the capital city’s oldest live music venue and they’re bringing the popular music generation with them.

Isaac, Taylor and Zac – who shot to fame with their debut song Mmmbop back in 1997 – were chuffed to be supporting a cause backed by some of their idols.

And in return the young men, whose ages range between 25 and 30, delivered a toned-down version of the Beatles’ Oh Darling which we think couldn’t be faulted.

Guitarist Isaac gave it his all, dripping with sweat from song two – which certainly got the younger crowd going.

The boys – or should we say men – proved that they still have the sparkle that threw them into the limelight fourteen years ago.

Happy to oblige the screaming masses they dutifully sang their popular debut track but it was in their new music where they really shone.

Delivering a plea to the crowd of 350 people, Hanson, performed Give A Little, the second single from their new album Shout It Out.

Although the LP was released in the States last June, the 3CG Records owners are currently working on doing the same in Europe.

Taylor said: “We’re very proud that 14 years later we’re still here. We are working on coming back here soon to tour.”

Zac added: “We’ve just been working on Hanson time but we’re back on Greenwich Mean Time now!”

Head to the source for a video of MMMBop from the show and a couple of photos of the venue!

Hanson Happy To Be Playing After 14 Years

‘MMMbop’ hitmakers Hanson have revealed they are ”proud” to still be recording and performing 14 years after they shot to fame with their debut single.

Hanson can’t believe they are still making music 14 years after releasing their first single.

The Oklahoma-based brothers – Issac, Taylor and Zac Hanson – shot to fame with their debut song ‘MMMbop’ in 1997 and while they have been quietly making music on their own record label since leaving Def Jam records in 2003, the group are now planning a series of shows in London this summer to showcase their extensive back catalogue.

Speaking at their gig in London’s 100 Club on Tuesday night (01.02.11) keyboardist Taylor said: “We’re very proud that 14 years later we’re still here.

“We are working on coming back here soon to tour. We’ve just been working on Hanson time but we’re back on Greenwich Mean Time now!”

Last year the brothers performed a series of five shows in New York called ‘Five of Five’ where they played each of their four previous albums in their entirety, before launching their fifth, ‘Shout it Out’, and they are hopeful they can do something similar in the UK capital.

At Tuesday’s show the band delighted fans by playing a series of their old favourites including ‘MMMbop’ and ‘Where’s the Love?’, alongside newer material.

They’re probably boarding up Faeces nightclub as we type now that The Only Way Is Essex fame whores and Jack Tweed have invaded the clubs and restaurants of London Town instead. And while this lot weep off their fake eyelashes into their hair extensions, Essex chump Mark Wright and his girlfriend Kayla Collins, who together make Lempit Opik’s and his 18-year-old fiancee’s relationship look real, were out living it up in Nobu. But more importantly, Hanson are back, back, back!!

Wright, who was arrested last month with Jack Tweed after a fight outside a bar in Chigwell (oh, the glamour!), treated Kayla, her collagen implants and his sister Jessica to dinner at Nobu, before they headed off for a night full of Cava stuffed with sparklers at Funky Buddha.

Meanwhile, Jackie Collins was seen wearing the fur of ten thousand dead animals with her toyboy at C restaurant, X Factor loser Kaite Waissel was spotted sniffing around for paps outside Roka (although we’d rather see her nan out and about and letting her hair down – or not – NSFWish) and Hanson (my, how they’ve grown!) – performing at the 100 Club as part of a charity gig to stop the venue from being closed down. Isaac looks exactly the same, as does Taylor but we can’t believe the youngest one clad in the super tight corduroys, would cut off and then dye his luscious long, blond locks that made him – black!

And the 100 Club must be desperate, were The Barbarellas not available?

WebWatch: Write or Die

By | February 2, 2011

The University Observer

Emer Sugrue of The University Observer writes about a program called “Write or Die” which helps encourage you to get your writing done. But it seems to me that the way that the program gets you to write, might backfire amongst Hanson fans…

Normal Mode is slightly harsher. After a few seconds of inactivity an annoying noise starts to play. It seems to be random. While playing around with it, I got crying babies, a poorly played violin and Hanson’s ‘MMMBop’.

Who are these guys and what have they done with Hanson?

OK Magazine

We know it’s been 14 years but Hanson are making us feel REALLY old

We refuse to believe that our childhood crushes, Hanson have grown up.
Long before The Wanted became our eye candy, Hanson were Mmmbopping girls into a frenzy
But last night the Hanson boys showed us they’ve got it with a last minute gig in London!
Hanson haven’t performed in the UK since 2007 when they released Go
We still can’t belive how much they’ve blossomed since the Where’s The Love video

(Head over to the source to check out some photos from last night as well as answer a poll on if you are loving the grown up Hanson!)

THIS is NOT Hanson.
OK, technically it is, but it’s not Hanson as we remember them!

The American musical trio – best remembered for their long blonde hair and 1997 hit Mmmbop – haven’t stepped on British shores since they released Go almost four years now.

But Isaac, Zac and Taylor nipped over to Europe last week and after a digital fan protest – loads of people begging them play the UK on Twitter – the generous lads decided to perform a last minute show, aw!

And wholesome the boys – were making guzzle milk when Nathan form The Wanted was in nappies – didn’t stop giving there.

The event drew in some serious attention from London’s oldest live music venue, the 100 Club, which incidentally is under a massive threat of closing down *sad face*

So the siblings ended up performing a charity gig. And we were well impressed with the amount of screaming girls that managed to turn up with only a few days to make ‘I heart Hanson’ signs (no seriously, there were a few).

Despite it being 14 years since they released their debut track here, a huge crowd gathered at the back of the venue to greet the brothers as they left the gig.

We know it’s been ages but these guys really don’t look like the same kids who used to hang around Trafalgar Square kicking pigeons.

Hanson Join ‘Save 100 Club’ Campaign
Pop stars HANSON have thrown their weight behind the campaign to save London’s legendary 100 Club – by playing a free gig at the venue.

The MMMBop hitmakers performed at the tiny underground club on Tuesday night (01Feb11) and made sure their loyal following caught the show by allowing fan club members to the front of the line.

Brothers Isaac, Taylor and Zac Hanson agreed to play the concert as part of a campaign to save the venue, which has hosted pre-fame gigs by the Sex Pistols, The Jam, and Oasis.

The 100 Club, on Oxford Street, is under threat of closure due to soaring rents in central London. Stars including Sir Mick Jagger and Ronnie Wood have called for the venue to be saved, and Sir Paul MCCartney played a sold-out show there in December (10) as part of the campaign.
