We Met Because of Hanson – Rachel & Tara

By | March 2, 2014

Here’s Rachel and Tara’s story about how they met!

I met my best friend Rachel because of Hanson. We “met” on the H.net forums while planning to attend Hanson Day 2012. She was looking for people to caravan/carpool with from South Carolina and I was planning to drive from Mississippi. After talking on H.net and Facebook, we found out that we would be in Little Rock at the same time, so we decided to meet there for lunch then caravan the rest of the way to Tulsa.
The first time we met in person was at a Waffle House right off the interstate in Little Rock. Within 2 seconds of meeting, we were finishing each other’s sentences. Over the weekend, we discovered that we had much more in common than just great taste in music. Once, while trying to navigate downtown Tulsa, our friends referred to us as an “old married couple.” We have been calling each other “darling,” “honey,” and “sweetheart” ever since!
Over the next year, we stayed in touch. We both went through many changes – I went through a divorce and the company I worked for went out of business. She moved from South Carolina to Utah with her husband. We supported each other through everything. Even though we didn’t get a chance spend time together in person, we were both bound and determined to attend Hanson Day 2013. She actually ended up flying to Mississippi to drive up to Tulsa with me.
Not long after, I moved out to Utah in search of a new job and stayed with Rachel and her husband. While I was there, we went to many concerts, including 2 on the Anthem World Tour (SLC and Vegas). I’ve since moved back to Mississippi, but Rachel and I still talk to each other all the time.

Fan of the Month – March – Heather

What is the very first memory of Hanson you have?
The very first concert I ever went to was a Hanson concert, on the Albertane tour. And it was like all my dreams came true. (I believe it was at Starwood in Nashville)

How many times have you seen Hanson in concert? Favorite concert memory?
6. This year, I finally got to take two of my kids to THEIR very first concerts on the ANTHEM tour!! So, needless to say that it meant a lot to me that the first band I got to see live was the very same band they got to see for their first concert experience.  Isaac talked with my son, Nathan for a while after the show I took him to. My daughter, Victoria got to talk to Taylor a lot on the walk before the show I took her to. So those two shows combined are my FAVORITE 🙂 and let’s don’t forget watching them enjoy the entire experience!

What is your favorite Hanson song and why?
Oh this question…
I can’t pick just one!
For the sake of picking I’ll say Man From Milwaukee, just because of the reasons: it reminds me of my childhood and goofy fun. And no matter the mood I start out in, no one can be sad or angry listening to that song!

Why do you like/love Hanson?
First of all: The music. But it’s always so much more than that isn’t it? Hanson has no only gotten me through a lot, and given me a ballad or rockout track for every event and experience in my life, but also some of the best friends I have ever met because of Hanson. I’d like to go on to say, that they are three wonderful people who actually do care about us as fans, and give us experiences that no other band offers.

How long have you been a Hanson fan?
Since the beginning of time 🙂
Seriously, I saw the video for MMMBop and that was the beginning of a beautiful new life.

Why should you be fan of the month?
Well, I don’t know that I should. haha. But this year alone [2013], I’ve been to Oklahoma twice, driven to 4 different states for shows. That doesn’t really top in the land of Fansons, but here I am loving them anyway.

The picture I am giving is of me and my daughter, Victoria, at her VERY FIRST CONCERT in Birmingham, AL (ANTHEM tour of course!)

There have been some questions being asked about presale / the event so I thought that I’d put together a FAQ and answer things to the best of my ability!
Public on sale begins Tuesday at 10am EST

Can the rooms sell out in presale?
As far as I know, there are no rooms blocked off for public presale so it is possible they could sell out during the presale for returning fans, though probably not likely that all room levels will sell out. The cheapest Deluxe Lagoon rooms are now marked off on Hanson.net as having been sold out.

Will the event itself sell out?
It’s really hard to say.  BTTI1 sold out so quickly they had to add an additional resort.  BTTI2 did not sell out and rooms (though more expensive ones) were available up until the event date.  BTTI3’s resort is 214 rooms compared to 210 rooms in Jamaica, but being that is a bit less expensive and easier to get to for many, as well as a new location it’s hard to judge how many will decide to book. I’d recommend book as early as you possibly can if you really want to go.

Do I need to stay extra days?
It’s up to you – but typically nothing starts on the first day (the 7th) until the concert at 9 or 10 pm.  The last day (the 11th) will just be everyone leaving.

How much free time do I have for myself?
(Times are rough estimates based on previous years schedules, subject to change)
When you arrive you have to check in to get your merch / wristband / lanyard and then nothing until the first Hanson show (9 or 10pm)
Day 2 is typically either a Zac or Isaac event, Solo Show, Main Concert (11am or 3pm, 5:30pm, 10pm)
Day 3 is the opposite Zac or Isaac event, Solo Show, Guest Concert (11am or 3pm, 5:30pm, 10pm)
Day 4 is photos with the band, Solo show, Main Concert, Afterparty  (3pm, 5:30pm, 10pm-??)
Day 5 – shuttles will leave throughout the day to the airport

Do I need a roommate right away?
No, but you will need to book the room as a single and pay the $800 down payment when you book.  Island Gigs should be able to convert your reservation from a single to a double when you have a roommate. Choosing the double room will require you to enter roommates information at the time of booking

Keep in mind when booking a flight to the resort – you will have to go through immigration and customs when you arrive.  This could take some time to get through the lines.

Keep in mind when booking a flight home that the afterparty could go pretty late (2am?)  In Jamaica we had to leave 5 hours early – but the airport was 1.5 hours from the resort.  In Cancun the resort is only about 20 minutes from the airport so shuttles shouldn’t have to leave as early.

If anything hasn’t been answered leave a comment.  I’ll try my best to answer.

Hanson Day 2014

By | February 26, 2014

If you are a Hanson.net Member, you are eligible to attend the bands “Hanson Day” Celebration in Tulsa, OK May 16-17 (and 18?)  (RSVP was closed May 1 and the confirmation list is in the news on Hanson.net!)  This year there will only be one large concert instead of several sessions and it will be held at Cain’s Ballroom in Downtown Tulsa.  The concert will be standing room only with some chairs on the side and in the back. If you have a disability there is a form to fill out on Hanson.net for accommodations.

Most fly in to the Tulsa Airport, but some may find it cheaper to fly in to Oklahoma City and rent a car to get to Tulsa.  It is about 1.5 hours driving from Oklahoma City to Tulsa.

Once you arrive in Tulsa, be sure to check in to get your purchased tickets and access to the concert. In addition to the concert there will be several other Hanson events and activities going on (as well as the Blue Dome District Festival and Mayfest)
