Hanson vists Fox 4, Share Hope for Africa

By | September 24, 2008

he Hanson brothers have come a long way from Tulsa, Okla. Their 1997 mega hit Mmmbop paved the way for their current success. But these days their catchy pop tune and long locks are a part of the past. They have a new hit on their hands and goal on their minds.

Inspired by their 2006 trip to Africa, Issac, Taylor, and Zac released the song “The Great Divide” on iTunes. Its proceeds go towards their new goal: preventing HIV and Aids in Africa.

But that’s not all. Hanson has also provided 50,000 pairs of shoes to people living in poor communities around the continent.

In addition to producing their own music under their label “3CG Records,” they’ve written a new book about their experience.

The Hanson brothers dropped by the FOX 4 News studio and discussed the hope they have for those living in Africa. Watch the video in the sidebar of this story to see their complete interview.

Article: Hanson coming to Knoxville

By | September 23, 2008

Pop fans can start MMMbop-ing now, because Hanson’s headed back into town.

On Wednesday, Oct. 1, Hanson will be performing at the Bijou Theatre in downtown Knoxville with opener The Veronicas. Tickets for their The Walk Tour are $33.50 a piece and the show starts at 8 p.m.

Hanson, who also performed at the Bijou last year, will be returning with some of their classics, as well as new material.

Although perhaps mostly known for their timeless first two albums, “Middle of Nowhere” and “Snowed In,” Hanson actually has 13 albums out.

While their recent concerts consist of newer material from their album, “The Walk,” Hanson also plays older material, usually in acoustic format.

Article: Hanson entertains hometown

By | September 23, 2008

Hanson was in town again this weekend, a little out of the way of their “Walk Around the World” tour, for QuikTrip’s 50th Anniversary Festival.

The event, held at River West Festival Park, featured a host of performances. The music began at noon and culminated with Hanson’s headliner performance at 7:50 p.m. Entrance was free, and tickets were available at all QT locations.

Thankfully, their music has longevity; it was just as good of a concert as I remember from elementary school.

Article: Q&A: Isaac Hanson talks about 'Walk' and new music

By | September 23, 2008

smudailycampus.com has an interview with Isaac. He talks about the walk and the reason for starting them up on the tour, the new album and his favorite song on it (he actually picks one!)

Have any of you dabbled in going solo?

Flying solo sounds glamorous, but I feel like I’m doing my own thing already. I’m just doing it with my brothers. It is really hard to be the only guy up there. It’s just incredibly grueling. The thought of doing it all on my own is scary. I can’t say I’ll never do it, but I do think we are more likely to collaborate with other artists first.

Article: Zac Hanson… On Hanson's Walk for a Cause and Going Indie with 3CG Records

By | September 23, 2008

PR.com has a great interview with Zac posted on their site. He talks a little bit about why they chose Africa, about the walks, about 3CG and its future and the fans. It is definitely a great read, as Zac is always very thoughtful and profound with his answers to questions like these.

PR.com: You seem to have a very loyal fan base. Why do you think you’ve been fortunate in that respect?

Zac Hanson: I’m not really sure. I guess it could be attributed to us. When we first came out we were so young. Our audience latched on to what we were doing and said, “This is a band of my generation and this represents who I am right now.” With everything we’ve done with every record, we never worried about whether it sounded like Hanson or not. We just made records that we feel passionate about. Our original influences were 50s and 60s early rock n’ roll. Those were all hits from “note one” type of songs. So, if that’s your bar, which we still set, even if you’re not worrying about writing a hit, you’re still trying to write a hit song if that’s the bar you’re looking at. We really appreciate everything our fans do. We have incredible passion from our fans. It’s become something more than just a concert or a record. I think there really is legitimately a culture in our fan base of people who are music lovers and caring about things like doing the walks. Hundreds of people walking with us in over 100 degree weather, or on the last tour in Canada where it was freezing! It was below freezing, snow on the ground and everybody walking with us.

Article: Hanson inviting fans to walk barefoot

By | September 23, 2008

Band will donate $1 per person until around the world amount is reached
September 18, 2008 – 10:07AM
By COREY STULCE

The brothers Hanson – Isaac, Taylor and Zac – have but a small goal: to walk around the world, barefoot.

Well, not literally. But the rock band of brothers is continuing a tradition they started about 70 or so concerts ago, where the band, with fans, do a one-mike walk without shoes in order to raise awareness and fight poverty and AIDS in Africa.

Isaac said during a recent interview that those who choose to do the one-mile walk with Hanson would have $1 donated toward a cause in Africa. “They put their name down and mark the cause they want to support, whether it’s research; whether it’s medicine; or education, such as building a school; or shoes or drilling a fresh well,” he said.

Those wanting to participate can visit www.hanson.net where the location for the walk before the band’s Tuesday evening concert at St. Louis’ The Pageant will be announced at least three hours before the show. Usually the walk takes place very near the concert venues where Hanson performs.
