Article: Taylor Hanson Barefoot Pictures: The Hanson's 'Take The Walk' For Charity

By | October 22, 2008

The Hanson Brothers walked barefoot for a charity called ‘Take The Walk’ tour in Time Square in New York City. The three Hanson brothers Isaac, Zao, and Taylor Hanson did the charity walk happily and you can see how they had fun in their pictures.

The Hanson Brother’s new album is called The Walk, while they worked on it in 2007 reports have said that the band took trips to Africa in order to better understand what it means for others to be poverty stricken and diseased on a foreign continent. The Take The Walk Tour was act to make the people of the United States more aware of the AIDs epidemic in Africa. They hoped the walk would get more people to understand and help those in need in Africa.

Taylor Hanson got the crowd pumped with a megaphone just before the one-mile walk began. Hanson stated that he would donate $1 for each person that walked. He and others walked barefoot and when questioned by those snapping pictures he stated that everyone’s bare feet were “totally in style” according to the Hanson blog. The goal of the walk is to actually walk 24,902 miles which is the earth’s circumference at the equator. Zac stated on the blog that “No matter how bad of an economic crisis we’re in, we’re still better off than the rest of the world,” he said. “For us, it’s just about the power of the individual — about the way we look at our own power to affect things.”

A very noble cause indeed, this writer gives two thumbs up to the Hanson brothers. (c) tPC

Wednesday Artist Spotlight: Joshua Fletcher and the Six-Shot Romance

By | October 22, 2008

Joshua Fletcher and the Six-Shot Romance opened for Hanson on the Live & Electric Tour, in Atlanta, GA in October of 2005.

Where is your band based out of?

We’re based out of Atlanta, Georgia

Can you give us a little background on the band?

We got together in the summer of 2005 after I made a solo record. I needed a band to play behind me and that’s when the Six-Shot Romance was created. We’ve all been friends for forever, and we’d been playing music together in some form for about 3 years at that point. Colin (the drummer) and I were in a punk band before this one called “The Knockout.” we used to play with our guitar player Casey’s band a good bit. We’ve been through a few bass players but I’ve known our current bass player, James, since the 8th grade because he was dating my cousin. It all kind of came together almost accidentally. I ran into Casey one day and after we’d got to talking a bit we figured out that neither one of us was really playing in a band, so we decided to make it happen, and after that everything just kind of fell into place.

What made you decide to enter Hanson’s opening act contest?
A girl I went to school with was helping us out with all the managing and stuff, and she got an email from a promoter in the area. She brought it to me and I was really excited about it.

What were your expectations before opening? Were they met?
We just expected a great crowd. It was our first experience with a Hanson crowd, and I’d say they were certainly everything we expected and more. It was a ton of fun.

Since opening, what has your band been up to?
Since then we’ve released a record, gone on tour a few times, and tried to build up more of a following in the area. The whole thing has been going really well.

Do you have any upcoming shows?
We’re playing October 18th at Under the Couch in Atlanta with two other great locals. It’s going to be a great show, and everyone that’s anywhere close should come out!

For future band dates, stay tuned to the band’s MYSPACE

Article: Hanson Opens Up Their Hearts to Change the World

By | October 20, 2008

Isaac, Taylor and Zac Hanson have traveled a long way in the decade since “MmmBop” hit the airwaves, and the most recent leg of their musical journey has taken them to Africa.
During the creation of their 2007 album “The Walk,” the brothers made several trips to Africa in an effort to better understand the poverty and disease that grips the continent.
In a recent telephone interview, Zac Hanson recalled a 2006 visit to Soweto, a destitute township outside Johannesburg, South Africa, where they met a chorus of middle school children with whom they recorded “Great Divide,” the second track on “The Walk.”
Singing in their native Zulu, the children chanted “Ngi ne themba,” which translates “I have hope.” At that moment, Zac could no longer distance himself from the truth of their circumstances.
“I think, as a way to protect yourself from the reality of the situation, sometimes you end up in denial,” Zac said. “But when we saw those kids singing the music we created, with the same passion and love of music we had at that age when we first started … something made me realize, this is just the same as the kids on the street in Tulsa, Okla. (his hometown), and I’ve got to do something.”

Fanning out in Foxborough
Hardcore Hanson fans – known as Fansons – would follow “Mmmbop” brothers Isaac, Taylor, and Zac to the ends of the earth. Fortunately, they didn’t have to Saturday. Before Hanson’s show at Showcase Live in Foxborough, the band (Zac, above) led fans on a mile walk – barefoot – to raise awareness about the AIDS crisis in Africa.
