21 Winners for first leg of Opening Act Competition announced in partenership with OurStage.com
Emerging Pop & Rock Artists to open dates on HANSON’s North American Tour, get interviewed in nightly Livestream with the band.

TOUR BEGINS JULY 21 IN BUFFALO, NY

New York, NY – July 19, 2010 – HANSON embarks on the summer Shout It Out tour in support of the album Shout It Out, which has been garnering critical praise and fan fervor across the country since it’s release on the bands own independent label on June 8th lead by the infectious first single Thinking ‘Bout Somethin’”.

Consistent with the bands history as a leading independent band, HANSON and OurStage.com are proud to announce the first set of winning acts for the “Shout It Out with HANSON” opening act competition, which allows local independent artists the opportunity perform in front of thousands of fans each night. In addition the winning bands are invited to a nightly livestreamed interview and acoustic performance, featuring HANSON and the winning acts in each of the 21 cities on the first tour leg (Hanson.net/alive).

In June, the multi-platinum band of brothers turned to the public to source the opening acts for the first two legs of their upcoming North American tour, with a total of thirty-four coveted slots up for grabs. Now, the lucky 21 winning acts of the tour’s first leg have been revealed (see full list below).

“OurStage’ has been a great partner to bring together the contest and reach out to so many talented developing independent artists” said Taylor Hanson. “Shout it Out in part is about celebrating the connection each of us get from great music and expression, we love creating a platform to expose great artists doing just that. Fans should make sure they get to the shows plenty early to check these bands out.”

Fan-determined voting is at the core of the “Shout It Out with HANSON” opening act competition, as the fate of these 21 indie bands’ dreams has been placed firmly in the public’s hands. The competing artists were whittled down, with the winners being chosen by public vote.

“Not surprisingly, there was an overwhelming response to the ‘Shout It Out’ competition,” said Ben Campbell, CEO of OurStage. “It shows how strong HANSON’s commitment is to giving back to the music community and their fans. OurStage is proud to partner with them to give these emerging acts a leg up.”

The second tour leg, featuring support act A Rocket To The Moon, covers the Southwest and West Coast from September 14th through October 1st. Entries for the second leg’s opening act competition will be accepted through July 22 at 11:59 pm, with winning bands announced in September.

Shout It Out was written and produced by HANSON, and augmented with special guests: Funk Brothers bassist Bob Babbitt, who played on some of Motown’s greatest hits, as well as horn arranger Jerry Hey, who worked with Michael Jackson, Quincy Jones, Earth, Wind and Fire and many more. The three-time Grammy-nominated band has been enjoying a massive resurgence in recent weeks, as the response to the album’s first single and video, “Thinking ‘Bout Somethin’,” now available at all major digital outlets, has been rapturous, receiving rave reviews everywhere.

Challenge 5—Celebrity Interview: Isaac Hanson

By | July 20, 2010

BittyBoops World

Isaac Hanson and his brothers Mmm Bopped their ways into our hearts and thirteen years later Hanson is winning the hearts of girls and women everywhere. Yesterday I had the pleasure of interviewing Isaac Hanson, who I used to listen to as a 10 year old. Basically my 10 year old self was totally freaking out and immediately went to YouTube to listen to some Hanson songs.

After doing two interviews prior to the TJ ones, Isaac was probably exhausted of answering questions but was completely friendly and answered my questions with complete detail. Here’s the questions I had to ask and then a quick wrap up.

· What inspired you to become a musician and continue with it as a career?

Isaac and the rest of Hanson are greatly influenced by late 50s and early 60s rock’n’roll artists like Chuck Berry and Otis Redding. The trio was introduced to the music at a young age while on a family trip by their mother who bought them a cassette tape. He has chosen to continue making music because it is a passion that just turned into a career. Growing up, Isaac stated that he could listen to a song once or twice and not only know the lyrics but also the melody.

· Who would like to collaborate with some day?

Hanson has collaborated with many different artists within the past decade but Isaac hopes to one day work with Billy Joel. He would like to just sit down with Joel to brainstorm lyrics and experience his creative process when it comes to making a song.

· What song do you like to perform most life?

After touring for over a decade, the list of songs continues to change for what Hanson performs from place to place. During last tour Hanson was on, Isaac really enjoyed playing ‘Hold On I’m Coming.’

· Favorite place to play.

This was a big of a tough one for Isaac because while he enjoys playing in his hometown, as any performer would, of Tulsa, OK, he is looking forward to playing in Philly during the Shout It Out Tour. Ultimately though, he really enjoys playing in Chicago.

· Favorite MTV Moment.

Isaac didn’t have just one favorite MTV moment but two. First the group did a show on MTV when their second album was released and played about three to four songs for their fans. Second, at a young age during interviews, the guys were asked just some silly questions about their lives, but when interviewed by John Norris, they were treated more like adults.

· What are your thoughts on the whole Twitter craze?

Being that this TJ contest is based on Twitter, I felt it only necessary to ask this question. He believes that there’s a lot of stuff out there but it doesn’t mean you should necessarily do it. Isaac does however believe that it’s a fun way to connect with people, you can be random, and be kept up to beat on what’s going on in the world.

· What does MMMBop mean?

This was the number one questions my tweeps wanted to know and so I asked. Isaac simply stated that MMMBop was just a phrase like c’est la vie and that everything else can just be understood by really reading the lyrics of the song. The song is just really about holding on to the things that matter and the context really speaks for itself.

Overall I had a fun time interviewing Isaac and his very whole down to earth self really made the interview relaxing. Not once did I get nervous about the interview, which really helped. I was a little saddened that Isaac doesn’t have a top 5 songs on his iPod and he doesn’t have a ‘must-see’ television show but I guess with his life being so busy making music and raising a family it’s totally understandable.

If you haven’t heard already, Hanson is about to go out on another tour starting tomorrow in Buffalo, NY, with Rooney opening for half of the tour and A Rocket to the Moon at the end. Be sure to visit their site right here http://www.hanson.net

Taylor Hanson Shouts It Out

By | July 20, 2010

Danchiz.com

Thirteen years ago, Hanson’s first album, Middle of Nowhere debuted and launched Taylor Hanson as a teen idol. Thirteen years later, he still has the same affect on female fans. The amount of texts, BBMs, tweets and Facebook comments exclaiming, “OMG,” “so jealous” and my favorite, “tell him I love him” exceeded my expectations.

Butterflies flew around my stomach at the thought of interviewing a band member of the first CD I ever bought, Middle of Nowhere—Taylor Hanson even thought it was “insane.” However, this man is very different than the boy we plastered all over our walls. Four kids and four albums later, he is all grown up.

Early June, Hanson released their fifth album, Shout It Out. This album, Taylor Hanson said, had “harsh critics.” These critics came in a small package—his kids. Taylor Hanson said, “They are very honest and they tell you what they like.” His kids had the most influence in their favorite song, “Carry You There.” Taylor Hanson said, “They definitely effected a decision to arrange the song a certain way.”

The fact Taylor Hanson takes the opinion of his kids (ranging in age from 2-8) is admirable. No matter the critic, he accepts the critique. He believes, “always be willing to hear the opinion of the purest person in the room.” For him, the purest is his children.

To describe Shout It Out, Taylor Hanson compares it to a popped champagne bottle; “There is a bubbly energy” because the album is about “celebrating the ‘in-the-moment’.” It was also created with Hanson’s live performance in mind. “The record was recorded very much off the floor—live,” states Taylor Hanson. No wonder Hanson’s five-night show last month at the NYC Gramercy Theater went sold out.

Wednesday, July 21st, Hanson starts their first summer tour since 2004, the Shout It Out Tour. This is the first tour for the new album; “It has different quality when you tour behind a new album.” This is mostly because of the anticipation surrounding the tour. Taylor Hanson is “really excited. [There is just] something about being out there in the summer time while people are not in school.” Performing for 100,000 people is “unnerving and kind of surreal.” He may be 27, but the teenage butterflies are still fluttering around his stomach.
