The Hanson brothers are back in town after a North American tour, and they’ve returned with their new reformulated and rebranded MMMhops IPA. It is the beer of the week.

The new MMMhops IPA just started shipping to the Oklahoma market.

Hanson Brothers Beer Co. introduced Oklahoma to their beers in 2013. Their best-selling beer was MMMhops, a beer that is a play on their worldwide hit single “MMMBop.”

Hanson partnered with Deshtil Brewing Co., based in Normal, Ill. Deshtil can brew their beers and have a distribution network to deliver them to the states that were on their tour.

“We’ve been making beer for over a decade now, and it really started with just a love of flavor and then also a love of community because, as you know, we started off doing music and still continue to be a musicians,” says Taylor Hanson. “We discovered great craft beers in cities all over the country, particularly all over the US and of course, internationally. We were witnessing this birth of craft beer, and we wanted be a part of that. We launched our craft beer endeavors in 2013 and 2014, and we said, we’re gonna do this.”

Isaac, Taylor and Zac Hanson of HANSON Brothers Beer Co. hold two new beers a refreshed MMMhops IPA and Pink Moonlight a Hazy IPA.

The MMMhops beer label was redone to look similar to the album cover, “Middle of Nowhere,” which included the massive hit single “MMMBop.”

“We’re proud of MMMBop. And if you know MMMBop, you know the history — it had an orange cover. So we, we wanted to embrace that,” he says. “You can connect the dots between the beer and the music. MMMhops IPA is I think, a really phenomenal beer. You gotta brew things you like, so obviously we’re proud of it. It’s very balanced.

“It’s more of a true American West Coast IPA with really strong hop components and is really bold. And at the same time, it’s drinkable. The original MMMhops was a little more malty in its body and it was actually pretty strong.”

The original MMMhops came in at 7.5% ABV, and the new one comes in at 6.3% ABV.

The beer is distributed in more than a dozen states with new markets coming online soon.

“Oklahoma, of course, is the most important. It says Tulsa, USA, on the label because that’s where it’s born, where it’s from, where it’s imagined, and we wanna make sure Oklahoma craft beer fans can always get it,” Hanson says.

HANSON will perform in their hometown during the 100th anniversary of Cain’s Ballroom. They have two Christmas shows on Friday, Dec. 13, and Saturday Dec. 14. MMMhops IPA will be available at Cain’s to enjoy during the shows.

Hanson Brothers Beer Co. also introduced Pink Moonlight hazy IPA with Peach this past summer and plan on more beers in the future. Ask for these beers if you don’t see them in your local establishment.
