2014 Hanson Year in Review

Here is our yearly recap of what HANSON did throughout 2014!

January
2014 kicked off with Hanson having played a New Years Eve performance in Syracuse, NY. Zac vowed to rid the world of twerking as part of his New Years Resolution. They were up for Biggest Music Comeback at PopCrush. Back To The Island 2 kicked off in Negril, Jamaica. The first show was ANTHEM in its entirety + a few extra songs, night 2 was one of the best Hanson shows in the history of Hanson shows where they performed only fanclub member songs.  Night 3 was the fan voted setlist and each Hanson also did a solo performance for the first time ever. Over the course of the event they played 93 songs, 89 of them which were unique! Valentine’s Day merchandise became available for sale. Hanson appeared on Celebrity Motor Homes showing off their tour bus.

February
Valentine’s Day merchandise arrived! Hanson had the first livestream of the year, where they announced that Back to the Island III would take place in Cancun, Mexico as well as the dates and some details for the Members Only Event in Tulsa, OK.

March
Hanson’s “MMMBop” went up against Mariah Carey’s “One Sweet Day” in the PopCrush Greatest Pop Song of the Modern Era poll and won! Taylor was to speak at SXSW “When to Tune Out the Trainwreck” panel.  “MMMBop” went up against Britney Spears’ “Baby One More Time” in the PopCrush poll, and unfortunately the Hanson fans were not able to pull out a win though they did put in a great effort considering the difference in twitter followers for Britney vs Hanson and the small gap in the voting! Taylor turned 31. Isaac and his family welcomed a daughter, Nina Odette. Hanson’s Australia / New Zealand tour was announced.

April
Hanson performed the National Anthem at the Grammys on the Hill event in Washington, DC. Taylor called in to KIIS FM Australia for an interview. “The Hop Jam” a beer and music festival happening in Tulsa OK on May 18th was announced. The band did several interviews with news outlets and radio stations in Australia to help promote the tour in August. MMMBop was featured in an episode of About a Boy.  Underneath turned 10!  Isaac and Taylor attend the HAIM concert in Tulsa and meet the band.

May
Hanson was part of a discussion at the Woody Guthrie Center in Tulsa. Butch Walker was announced to perform at Hop Jam.   Hanson was announced by Disney as once again performing at Eat to the Beat at EPCOT.  MMMHops was made available online at wineandcheeseplace.com.  Additional Australian dates and MOEs were announced. A record number of fans flocked to Tulsa for the Members Only Event and Hop Jam festival.  Music Made for Humans was released. Summer merchandise that was debuted at the members only weekend made its way to the Hanson.net store.

June
Our setlist database expanded significantly to include all shows on file.  There was excitement when BandsinTown incorrectly posted a show in Belgium to Hanson’s facebook page – it was found out to not be our band that was set to perform. Pickles Pub in Tulsa held a M&G with Hanson to spread the word about MMMHops.

July
Hanson announced “You Pick the Setlist” for the Australian tour which allowed fans to pick what they played for 3 of the shows on the tour. Sam Noble Museum posted some photos and part of a article written by Taylor from his experience at their Paleo Expedition. Digging to China, the song recorded at Zac’s Members Only Lecture was posted.

August
The Anthem tour kicked off down under with lots and lots of appearances.  Zac came down with an illness while on tour and was on vocal rest for many of the shows but as they say, the show must go on! The band did 9 concerts and 4 members only events.  The guys also appeared on XFactor Australia with the finalists.  Taylor and his family participated in the Ice Bucket Challenge for ALS. Taylor began work with Food On The Move. Hanson ended the month with a free performance at the CNE in Toronto, Canada.

September
Taylor continued his work with Food on the Move. MMMHops debuted at the EPCOT Food and Wine Festival and the Fife & Drum Tavern.  Taylor presented at “The Conversation With” in Tulsa with former U.S. Ambassador to South Africa Edward Perkins. Hanson created a playlist for the Andy Warhol exhibit at the Philbrook Downtown in Tulsa.  The month ended with Hanson performing 5 shows (1 was canceled due to weather) at Eat To The Beat in EPCOT as well as doing a seminar in the Festival Center about their MMMHops beer.

October
October kicked off with the new Hanson.net and the release of Super Digital Pants. Taylor attended The Under 30 Summit presented by Forbes in Philadelphia, PA and performed with LP  and covered “Stop Dragging My Heart Around”  He also participated in one of the panels. Hanson had an aLive Tonight livestream and announced the 2015 Members Only Event in Tulsa dates.   Zac turned 29.  The Golden Rule and Launch Time were added to the track listing for Digital Pants. The 2014 Halloween song Monster Jam was released.

November
November kicked off with another aLive Tonight stream which had the special “Song to Sing” contest.  The guys performed Genesis’ “Invisible Touch” which won the voting from all the fan submitted songs.  MMMBop was ranked #12 on the Top 20 catchiest songs of all time list.  Holiday Merchandise was released along with the new Christmas song, “Finally It’s Christmas”. It was announced that David Ryan Harris and Nick Santino would be joining Hanson for Back to the Island in Cancun in January 2015.  Isaac turned 34. Hanson had their “Finally It’s Christmas” stream at the end of the month, with Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You” winning the Christmas Song to Sing livestream contest. Taylor taught us to make homemade doughnuts. The guys went caroling at Tulsa Street Team Members homes.

December
Isaac and Taylor went to various liquor stores with MMMHops in the Tulsa area.  Things began to wind down with the band as they get ready to spend the holidays at home with their families. The band’s appearance on Hell’s Kitchen, recorded in late 2013, finally aired on FOX. It was announced that the themes for the Back to the Island shows would be “Welcome to the Island” (setlist chosen by Hanson), “Christmas on the Island” (Hanson’s first ever Christmas set) and “Desert Island Setlist” (setlist voted on by HNet members made up of album songs and fanclub EP tracks)

 

We look forward to what 2015 will bring – Back to the Island in a new location – Cancun, Mexico.   The Members only event in Tulsa May 15-17.  The new Members EP.  And we gear up for the excitement of a new tour and a new album in the works!
