10 years ago yesterday, Hanson released their first independent album, “Underneath” in the US. At the time, leaving a major label and creating your own record label was somewhat uncharted territory. Ten years later, it is becoming the norm. Many didn’t know if Hanson could succeed on their own – but Hanson proved that they could, with Underneath topping the Billboard Top Independent albums at #1. Underneath also peaked at #25 on the Billboard Top 100.
The making of Underneath and the struggles with their record label, Island/Def Jam, is documented in the band’s documentary “Strong Enough To Break”. Released in 2005, it shows the band’s three year struggle to make the album that ended up being Underneath.
