Welcome to March Music Madness! Here at PopCrush, we’ve selected 32 of the most iconic pop songs released from the ’80s to today (divided into brackets by decade) — and now it’s your job to vote and decide which song will be named the Greatest Pop Song of the Modern Era. May the best song win!

In Round 1 of March Music Madness, Britney Spears‘ ‘Baby One More Time’ won over the Spice Girls‘ ‘Wannabe’ with a whopping 70.14% of the votes. Likewise, Hanson‘s ‘MMMBop’ had a landslide win against Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men‘s ‘One Sweet Day’ — 80.42% of the votes went to the pop/rock band of brothers! Now, in a true battle of ’90s pop greatness, ‘Baby One More Time’ faces off against ‘MMMBop.’ Which song should be given the title of Greatest Pop Song of the Modern Era?

Britney Spears’ breakthrough hit, ‘Baby One More Time,’ was released in 1998 and launched the then-teenage singer’s pop career. Its sexy school girl music video (which made its way into heavy rotation on ‘TRL’) helped bring the track to even greater heights, but at its core, ‘Baby One More Time’ is an undeniably great pop song that went to No. 1 worldwide and earned a Grammy nomination.

A year before that, Hanson’s ‘MMMBop’ hit the airwaves. The debut single from Isaac, Taylor and Zac Hanson hooked pop fans with its insanely catchy chorus, sunny sound and meaningful message: “Hold on to the ones who really care / In the end they’ll be the only ones there.” ‘MMMBop’ topped the charts at No. 1 in over 20 countries and was nominated for two Grammys, all while the band’s three brothers were still in their teens.

‘Baby One More Time’ and ‘MMMBop’ both have impressive stories of success, and they both built devoted fan bases for Britney and Hanson. The voting for this round will likely be intense, so make your voice heard before this poll closes at 12PM ET on March 18. You are allowed to vote up to once per hour until then. Only one of these songs will move on to Round 3, one step closer to being named the Greatest Pop Song of the Modern Era.
