Stuart Chafetz, the new principle Columbus Symphony Pops conductor, talks about the upcoming Picnic with the Pops concert with ’90s boy band Hanson and what he loves about bringing music to the masses in this week’s installment of “Life in the 614,” the official podcast of the features department at The Columbus Dispatch.

Pops concerts attract a whole different audience for the symphony, he said, and in this case there’s a built-in level of super fans. Thought their voices have dropped an octave since their 1997 hit “MMMBop,” the trio of brothers who make up Hanson continue to make music. The upcoming performance, titled “Hanson String Theory,” takes place at 8 p.m. Saturday at the John F. Columbus Commons. For more information, call 1-800-745-3000 or columbussymphony.com.
